View Full Version : Does Anyone Remember Gary Coleman making guest appances on Other Sitcoms?
Larenz09 07-29-2011, 07:43 AM Do any of you remember Gary Coleman making guest appearances in other sitcoms?
He made guest appearances on Good Times and The Jeffersons when he was a little boy.
Earlier in the decade, he made a guest appearance on The Parkers, where he played a tenant / neighbor who had just moved in upstairs in Mo'Nique's building, looking for an acting job. Also, in that episode, Mo'Nique had the hots for him.
Can you name anything else that he was in? :)
Mr. Television 07-29-2011, 07:53 AM I know that he was on the final episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air along with Conrad Bain.
biffbronson 07-29-2011, 10:20 AM Of course years later he guested on Married With Children. Christina Applegate as Kelly Bundy had a famous line: "Aren't you Gary Coleman?"
Regulus 07-29-2011, 10:21 AM He was the Guest Star in an episode ofBuck Rogers called "Cosmic Whiz Kid". It turns out he also came from the 20th Century, and one of the things I remember him saying about life in the future was that he missed Saturday Morning Cartoons. :( How Prophetic he was about that one!
dummytree 07-29-2011, 10:53 AM Didn't he appear on "The Facts of Life" as well ?
And in Martin in the mid 90s, where he played a Gooch-type part :) (but i know you knew it already!).

Yes. He appeared in an episode of season 1 and a few season 2 episodes as well.

As a matter of fact, wasn't Facts of Life a spin-off from Strokes? I thought that I might have seen Kim Fields appear on Strokes a few times. :)

catlover79 07-29-2011, 02:03 PM In the late 90s through the early 00s, Gary would appear in bits on Jay Leno. They were all hilarious. He appeared as an elf in one, participated in a "Celebrity Survivor" parody with other vintage TV actors, and as a "candidate" for Mr. Rogers' old job, among others.

And even after all that. no one seemed to want him to star in anything else!! Shame!!!!!!!!!

I never knew that he was in an episode of Martin, and I watch that all the time on TVOne. I DID however, see 3 famous rappers make guest appearances on the show. They were NOTORUOUS B.I.G., Snoop Dogg and BizMarkie.
Didn't see him on 227 either.
I only saw him on The Parkers. I recorded that episode, thank God!! :)

There was also a tall skinny dude who wore a big brown Afro, quite similar to the one who martial artist Jim Kelly wore in Enter the Dragon and Black Belt Jones, and made a guest appearance in a two-part ep of Good Times, playing the same character name. He played a gangbanger / thug / gang leader who bullied and threatened JJ into joining his gang of thugs and shoots him. :)

That's where the idea of the name came from since Martin Lawrence was a fan of Good Times

Small world. Will wonders never cease!
Martin would have the gang over in his apt on the show, and you could hear the theme music from Good Times playing in the background on the TV they were watching.
Guees that he really was a fan of the show. :)

That same two-part ep of Good Times will air this evening on TVOne, BTW.
dummytree 07-30-2011, 06:25 PM I didn't know about the Good Times reference.

He also appeared in the "Facts of Life" parody sketch on the short-lived "The Rerun Show" in the early 2000s.
catlover79 07-30-2011, 11:17 PM Dang, I wish YouTube had THAT!
It was priceless. Other "auditionees" were Gilbert Gottfried, Mr. T, and "Bill Clinton" (an impersonator, of course). That bit was awesome.
An 80s Guy 08-24-2011, 02:00 PM He was on an episode of The Wayans Bros show.
Larenz09 10-11-2011, 09:05 PM That's where the idea of the name came from since Martin Lawrence was a fan of Good Times
The name of the ep was High Noon.
Just saw it for the first time that I can remember.
They didn't have Gary in it until about the last 10 minutes of the show!!
MasterEdward 10-19-2011, 12:12 AM He was actually in two episodes of Buck Rogers In The 25th Century! I remember watching them both. Because I was a big fan of Diff'rent Strokes and Buck Rogers.
Ed.

Yeah, I, also, remember seeing him in those two episodes of that show. Didn't he become friends with the little robot?
I liked the little robot. He used to make that funny noise that after he talks that goes; "Bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-bee-beep".

Snoop Dogg and BizMarkie were also guests in the same ep of the Tracy Morgan Show. Snoop Dogg played the sponsor / rapper at a "live" show for a charity to benefit sick kids. Actor, Bobb'e J. Thompson was a little pint-size ham on the stage, stealing the show. He wouldn't get off the stage when Tracy Morgan tried to get him to come off. It was then that I noticed he would also become a rapper! Haven't seen him rap much, but he IS a very good actor!!
Gary also made a guest appearance on the Jenny Jones Show.
Larenz09 10-19-2011, 03:45 AM Gary, Todd, Conrad Bain & John Ritter also hosted a Sitcom Online TV awards special on TVLand several years back. I didn't see it though. Missed it!
Gabgirl 10-24-2011, 04:46 AM I also remember Gary showing up on the Reality show(the new sitcom these days), The Surreal Life where has been celebrities live in a house together. Gary made a guest appearance, as a manager of a restaurant the because the celebs were assigned to work in. Vanilla Ice was apart of this cast, and he taunted Gary repeatedly. Gary was trying to be professional as their manager, but Vanilla just kept taunting him to say "What you talkin'?" He just wouldn't let up, so he picks Gary up like he's going to throw him in one of the pots. Gary got so mad he just left the restaurant. I also recall Todd Bridges being apart of the cast as well acting like he couldn't understand why Gary was so upset.
I know it wasn't a old school sitcom, but it was a guest spot memory that stuck out.

Emmanuel Lewis also appeared in the show. He was always often compared with Gary Coleman because they were of very small stature.
Incidentally, Gary DID actually own and operate a restaurant in real life.

Excuse all those typos...LOL. But yes, I do actually remember Emmanuel Lewis being on Surreal Life as well. Of course, he didn't go through anything like Gary did, but definitely recall him popping up on the show. I also recall Emmanuel being compared to Gary often. I actually used to view Webster as a bit of a Diff'rent Strokes knock off.
Now I never knew that Gary owned a restaurant. Hmmm, maybe that's why the had him guest star on that show as the manager. Do you know what kind of restaurant it was that he owned?

Beats me. I only know that he once owned and ran one.
Does anyone else know about this?
Gary also did some odd jobs, such as security and others. He once shaved his head clean in the late '80s, and sources had begun to reveal that he was definitely changing for the worst.
Torgo 10-25-2011, 11:35 AM Gary was also on The People's Court, and Divorce Court
Larenz09 10-25-2011, 05:02 PM Gary was also on The People's Court, and Divorce Court
Yeah, that 2-part ep of DC was about him and Shannon having real-life problems with their marriage.
They did that to see if they can "bury the hatchett", repair their marriage and move on with their lives. Gary looks like a little boy standing there at his podium.
ThomasE 12-01-2011, 06:58 PM I remember the 227 episode he worked on in season five called "The Knock Off". He played Mr. Big. He was unknowingly trying to push up on another character's boyfried who was dressed in undercover female drag. That was one of my favorite episode. I have it from NBC broadcast from 1990 and it is on youtube as well.
Mrgman 01-22-2012, 10:47 PM he was on drake and josh when they sold his grills
