While Two And A Half Men will continue this fall with Ashton Kutcher as the lead actor in the wake of Charlie Sheen's firing, things will never be the same with this show and given my dislike for Kutcher's "acting," this show will most likely be a sitcom I won't enjoy watching.
This show was created expressly for Charlie Sheen. And the chemistry developed between this company of actors in combination with the writing is what really made this show tick creatively. When you get such a combination and it really works, it makes for great TV.
When it was clear that the show's producers/actors could no longer work with Charlie Sheen -- and I don't blame them for axing him because of his behavior -- they should have called it a day. The show has eight seasons under its belt and will continue to do well in syndication, as it has for the last four years.
But ratings and money rule in the entertainment world and CBS and the show's producers want to milk this cash cow for all it's worth. And I understand the actors wanting to keep their jobs and a need to earn a living, but there comes a point when, from a creative standpoint, it's time to move on.
IMO, this is the time.
But Chuck Lorre, CBS and the Two And A Half Men actors are going to continue on regardless of how I feel. Whether or not this retooling will yield creative and/or ratings success remains to be seen, but this will obviously not be the same show and I will miss seeing new episodes with Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper.
