I think you're thinking of Kim Schad. She's from Vietnam originally but came to the US when she was 7 or 8 years old and is searching for two little girls, Gnoc and Yanching (pronounced "knock" and "young-sing"), that were her best friends during her childhood in Vietnam. As far as I know, she has not found either of them as yet.
