I was on the Movie Mistakes website and found out that they had taped two endings for "Something Borrowed, Someone Blue". The first ending was that Niles and Daphne don't end up together and the other one is the one that we see now. It was up to viewers to vote as to which ending they wanted.
Of course viewers voted for the ending we see now, which is Niles and Daphne ending up together.
I mean was there ever any doubt as to which ending the viewers would pick? Like we would have accepted Niles and Daphne apart after all those years Niles spent pining after her. There would have been a lot of complaints and protests.
I never knew there were two endings, so this came as a complete shock to me.
A lot of people say that the show "jumped the shark" when Niles and Daphne got together, but I disagree. Sure there wasn't the comedic reactions of Niles when he was around Daphne, but it was still funny and just as good as it had ever been at least to me.
I think one of the funniest scenes after Niles and Daphne are together is when Daphne goes into labor at the vets office and Niles hyperventilates when he is helping Daphne breathe. Hilarious.
Just something interesting I thought I would share. :)

I agree wholeheartedly. Who DIDN'T want N/D together?! Well, besides Mel and Donny? LOL And I have to agree about the birth in "Goodnight, Seattle." The scenes w/ N/D and the baby are just a guaranteed "aww!" moments.

Niles:He's got your nose and my chin.
Daphne:He's got my hair.
Niles:You think so?
Daphne:No, he's got my hair. Let go, dear.

*melts* It's a shame we never got to see them as parents, really. But that's what fanfiction is for, right?! ;)

Was it called "The Spoon and the Dish Ran Away"? After they left Donny at the wedding site and started dating, they have a fight and Frasier and Martin set up a table and dinner (with music) on the roof.

Love that ep.

I was posting on DHP's message board (it's not really HIS site, but a site all about him), and there are a LOT of anti-Niles/Daphne people on there. They seem to think that DHP didn't want them to put them together-and a lot of these people were saying that it was because DHP isn't straight. I find that completely ridiculous. He's an amazing actor-and even more so because he made Niles love for Daphne look so real that many times it brought tears to my eyes.

But I had no idea that they filmed two versions of that episode. Even when Daphne left, it was pretty obvious what was going to happen later on. Had they left it where they didn't get together, that would have made the last seven years of him being in love with her and vice versa (unknowingly of course), a complete waste of time! If you watch the DVD extra from the first season, the writers even talk about their quest to get Niles and Daphne together so why would they go to all that trouble if it was never going to happen?

And Pat, Dish/Spoon is one of my all time favorite episodes. I absolutely LOVE that scene where they are kissing in the kitchen and they're so shy when Frasier walks in. Just adorable!

What absolute and complete rubbish! Just because DHP isn't straight doesn't mean a thing, Niles was and that's how DHP played Niles. He was head over heels in love with Daphne and it showed. That's how good of an actor that DHP was, I didn't even know he wasn't straight until I read about it. I was completely taken aback. He is an exceptional actor and the pairing of Niles and Daphne was pure genius.

Exactly, I watched the special they had on TV and they even said that the pairing of Niles and Daphne was something that was thought up from the very beginning and that Niles and Daphne would eventually end up together. They just didn't know when, but by the time season 7 rolled around they figured they had put it off long enough and decided to bring them together.

That is one of my favorite scenes. I just loved that they were being so shy around each other at first. Too cute! Like two teenagers in love. They went through what every couple goes through, the first kiss, the first date, the first time, the first fight, getting engaged, getting married, and having a baby. :D

I agree that it would have been a waste of time if they had not gotten Niles and Daphne together. Something Borrowed Something Blue is a good episode. The episode that followed that was called And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon.

I loved when Niles & Daphne finally got together. Couldn't see her with Donny. I sometimes find it hard to watch a gay man play straight because, to me, they usually don't pull it off. But when you see Niles trying to smell Daphne's hair without getting caught...priceless. I totally believe he has the hots for Daphne. I don't understand those anti Niles/Daphne people on that site. They make a sweet couple. Niles and Daphne forever!!!!

They sure do! I hope I haven't mentioned this to death (and I apologize for getting off-topic here) but for years and years my all time favorite couple was Jack and Jennifer on Days of our Lives but they've been dethroned by Niles and Daphne. Believe me it takes a VERY special couple to make that possible because I didn't think ANYONE could top Jack and Jennifer. But Daphne and Niles are completely adorable and sweet and in a small way... similar to Jack and Jennifer in that they are complete opposites that work well together. I won't get into all that but just had to mention it briefly.

And I should also point out (apologizes again for mentioning this to death) that just last December, Seinfeld was still my all-time favorite show. That has since been replaced by Frasier and I didn't think that would EVER happen!

But back on topic, I owe my love of Niles and Daphne to David Hyde Pierce (And Kristen for getting me hooked on Frasier in the first place!) David is what made Niles and Daphne so adorable with his always pining over her from afar. Jane too, of course... But he's the one that I took notice of right away! :eyes: Such an amazing talent!

I can't imagine why people would hate them together but to each his own I guess. I really and truly think that if DHP hadn't wanted to play Daphne's significant other, he would have made sure it never happened. Instead he put his entire soul into playing Niles and for making us melt watching Niles and Daphne fall in love!

I won't get into all that but just had to mention it briefly. I agree with this! John and Marlena were always on the top of my list and then when I saw Niles and Daphne, that all changed! Don't get me wrong, I love John and Marlena but Niles and Daphne have given them a run for their money. I also have a confession to make. Several months ago, I didn't even watch Frasier or even like it for that matter, but one evening I was sitting around bored and there was nothing on TV. I saw that Frasier was on so I went ahead and decided to watch it, it was better than nothing. My mom is a big fan of the show and I used to watch it with her, but didn't pay much attention but this time it was different. I don't know what happened. I guess my eyes were opened, I saw the show in a whole different light. I started watching it every night and started recording it on my DVR and before long I fell in love with Niles and Daphne and now I can't get enough. Just an amazing show.

That has since been replaced by Frasier and I didn't think that would EVER happen! That's how it was for me, The Golden Girls was really the only show I watched, not anymore!

I agree with this as well! I think that is what finally caught my attention. There was just something about Niles that appealed me to the character. I fell in love with him. I could help but like Jane too. She was just too cute and funny as Daphne and she was just amazingly beautiful. I just loved her accent.

I can't imagine why people would hate them together but to each his own I guess. That is so true! If DHP didn't want to be paired with Jane he would have said something. The effort he put into his scenes with Jane was nothing short of amazing. If we didn't know better, we wouldn't have known he was acting. It was that believable. It also helped that DHP and Jane were good friends in real life. Jane loved playing opposite DHP and even had a bit of a crush on him in real life which I know helped make the scenes more believable onscreen. DHP always had nothing but nice things to say about Jane, he loved the pairing of Niles and Daphne and thought it was a smart move by the show to pair them up. Niles and Daphne were one of the most believable, loving, romantic, and sweetest couples ever! Enough said! :D

I didn't know that about the two separate endings either. I wonder how they got an audience poll to vote on which they wanted? Just a generic poll based on the two ideas, or did some people actually get to see both endings and then decide, I wonder? If they actually did tape the alternate ending, shame on them for not putting it as an "extra" on the dvd set for that season.

I like your words up there, and I would imagine David probably had "a bit of a crush" on Jane as well, being that a crush is really more about emotional attachment than it is about love (or sexual orientation). He has said he was emotionally attached to the part he played and to the storyline, so it only makes sense that he'd be emotionally attached to Jane too. As I said in a different topic, it seems like that's pretty common with good actors and I think that must be one of the reasons why these people who aren't really in love can make us so strongly believe that the characters they play are. :)

I'm kind of curious about that other ending, but there's another side of me that doesn't even want to see it.

I'm sure if they filmed it, they showed it for the poll.

 Well that's true. I'd have to keep reminding myself that this isn't really what happened and that Niles and Daphne are really just pretending. They're acting. For a play they're doing. Or something. And when they're all finished they're going to go out to dinner and dancing. Yeah.
