BREAKING NEWS: Amy Winehouse, 27, found dead at her London flat

Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home in London, it has been reported.
The Back To Black singer was apparently found at 4pm and her death is believed to be unexplained.
Winehouse had been seen with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield earlier this week as the teenager took to the stage at the iTunes festival.

While she didn't perform any tracks, Winehouse apparently begged the crowds to buy Dionne's album.
A source said: 'Amy staggered onstage and grabbed the mic to beg the crowd to buy her protege’s new album.'
Winehouse's appearance at the concert came after she cancelled her European tour following a disastrous performance in June when she stumbled onto the stage in Belgrade and gave an incoherent performance appearing very disorientated and removed from reality.

Following the concert which saw fans enraged and the subsequent video that circulated to millions she cancelled the remaining dates of her European tour.

A statement released by the troubled singer's spokesperson said that the 27-year-old would be given 'as long as it takes' to recover.
The statement read: 'Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances.

'Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen.'

Very sad, I've been a fan of her from the beginning.

I was really hoping she was going to pull through, but by looking at her and hearing about the lifestyle that she lived - the news is not surprising.

Also sad that she leaves only a small piece of music behind and we'll never know her full potential.

Why is this not surprising? ohno:

She was beautiful (at first) and talented, but she let her dance with drugs and alcohol overpower her. Everyone tried to get her clean and sober, but to no avail.

27 seems to be this tragic age when many young rock artists die.

RIP Amy. :rip:

Beautiful post Jim! Fortunately, I can say that I'm two months sober from drugs, and over five months sober from alcohol, and I didn't even seek treatment, although I'd strongly encourage others to do so. Fact is, few people succeed in sobriety if they don't seek treatment, and that's the best option for anyone struggling with substance abuse. The path I was on definitely would have killed me within a few years, but thanks to amazing friends, a new kind of willpower, and mostly God, I can say that I'm alive and happy. over the last two months, I'm the happiest that Iv'e been in years, and I will never take life for granted again. It's still a daily struggle, but I think I'm going to make it. :) Thanks again for your poignant words Reverend Jim. My hope and prayer is that your words will sink in for atleast one person out there, and their life will be saved as a result of your beautiful, and selfless words. You're definitely one of a kind, and that's a compliment. Much love to you my friend!!

'Back to Black' Album Shoots to No. 1 on iTunes
7/23/2011 by THR staff

Amy Winehouse’s acclaimed 2007 album 'Back to Black' jumped to the top of the iTunes chart Saturday, following the news the troubled singer had been found dead in her home in London.

Meanwhile, the music video for her single “Rehab” from the album reached No. 10 on the iTunes on Saturday.

“Rehab” was the biggest single from the album. Upon its release in the U.S. in early 2007, Winehouse rose to international fame.

The song, a throwback to the American girl-group sound of the 1960s, made the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 and sold more than 1 million units.

Meanwhile, the album earned Winehouse six Grammy nominations, including all four major categories, at the 2008 Grammys. She went 5-for-5 but lost out on the album of the year award to Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters, one the biggest upsets in Grammy history.

Winehouse won best new artist; “Rehab” won song and record of the year along with best pop vocal performance; and 'Back to Black' was named best pop vocal album.

Right, I did some research on that, and yes, she's had 3 Top 20 in the UK

In fact, she's had 4 Top 40 Hits in the UK with songs like "Rehab", "You Know I'm No Good", "Back to Black" and "Tears Dry on Their Own"

"Rehab" peaked @ #7 in the UK, #4 in Canada and #9 in the USA

"You Know I'm No Good" peaked @ #18 in the UK and #37 in Canada

"Back to Black" peaked @ #25 in the UK

and "Tears Dry on Their Own" peaked @ #16 in the UK

Amy's had 2 Top 40 Pop Hits in Canada

and BTW, the Album Back to Black became her only #1 Pop Album in the UK and other European Countries and it was also #1 in New Zealand

The Album peaked @ #4 in Australia and #2 here in America

and as I said before, "Rehab" was Amy's only Top 40 Pop Hit here in America

Amy Winehouse Autopsy Inconclusive, Cause of Death Will Take Until October
Posted on Jul 25th 2011
by Dan Reilly

More details are emerging about Amy Winehouse's death on Saturday, July 23, though it will take until October to know the exact cause of her passing.

As WENN reports, the initial autopsy was inconclusive, and the coroner will have to wait for the toxicology results and histology tests before determining the exact cause of death.

After the brief postmortem examination, Assistant Deputy Coroner Suzanne Greenaway said the case would be adjourned until Oct. 26. Her body was then turned over to her family for burial, which will take place as soon as possible in accordance with Jewish customs.

This is the latest in a series of updates about the singer's tragic death at 27 years old.

According to TMZ, the singer was found in her bed by a security guard who was hired to look after her. "She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep and when he went to wake her he found she wasn't breathing," Chris Goodman, a friend and publicist for Winehouse, told the site.

"He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed."

Winehouse was reportedly visited by a doctor on Friday night for a a routine checkup and was declared healthy, or as well as could be expected. She allegedly was strong enough to play the drums in her home loud enough for neighbors to complain.

Winehouse last spoke to her handlers at 10AM on Saturday, when she went to sleep. When she was found dead around 4PM, rigor mortis had already set in, so it is likely that she had been dead for hours.

Police sources have revealed to the Daily Telegraph that no drugs were found in the house. An official from the coroner's office said that the death was not suspicious.

Meanwhile, Winehouse's parents, Mitch and Janis, have thanked fans for their support. Mourners have turned the singer's London home into a shrine, leaving flowers, memorabilia and tributes.

"I can't tell you what this means to us," Mitch Winehouse told the crowd.

"It really is making this a lot easier for us. Amy was about one thing, and that was love. Her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends, and to you guys as well."

I dunno...the other "27 Club" Musician, Jimi Hendrix only had 1 Top-40 Hit Song, "All Along the Watchtower"...but his other songs like "Fire", "Purple Haze", "Foxy Lady", and "Wind Cries Mary" get a lot of airplay.

So...though Winehouse may be gone, she may get her songs recognition.

Amy Winehouse Funeral Held in London
July 24, 2011
by Joyce Eng

Family and friends paid tribute to Amy Winehouse at a private funeral in London Tuesday, The Associated Press reports.

Winehouse's close friend and producer Mark Ronson and friend Kelly Osbourne were among the hundreds of mourners at the morning service at Edgwarebury Cemetery.

Osbourne wore her hair in the singer's signature beehive style to pay homage.

Winehouse's father, Mitch, read a eulogy, according to Sky News.

He ended with: "Goodnight, my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much."

"He told some great stories from childhood about how headstrong she was, and clearly the family and friends recognised the stories and laughed along," a family spokesman said.

"He stressed so many times she was happier now than she had ever been and he spoke about her boyfriend and paid tribute to a lot of people in her life."

Winehouse's ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, did not attend the service after officials refused compassionate leave from jail. He started serving a 32-month sentence last month after being convicted on burglary and firearms offenses.

Amy Winehouse was cremated after the service and then her family held a gathering over at a local synagogue.

LONDON, July 28 (UPI) -- Amy Winehouse had quit drinking and was suffering from alcohol withdrawal when she died, sources close to the singer's family told England's The Sun newspaper.

Winehouse, who long battled addictions to drugs and alcohol, died last weekend in her London home at the age of 27. The cause of her death has not yet been determined.

A family source told The Sun the Grammy Award winner died after she ignored her doctor's advice to stop drinking alcohol gradually.

"Abstinence gave her body such a fright they thought it was eventually the cause of her death," one insider told the newspaper.

At her funeral Tuesday, Winehouse's father, Mitch, denied media reports claiming she had started drinking heavily again in the days before she died.

"He wanted everyone to know that he, her boyfriend and her manager believed it was actually the complete opposite," the source told The Sun. "He said doctors had told Amy to gradually reduce her intake of alcohol and to avoid binging at all costs. Amy told him she couldn't do that. It was all or nothing and she gave up completely. Mitch Winehouse said the shock of giving up, after everything she had been through over a bad few years, was just too much for her to take."

Later in the week, Winehouse handed out flowers his daughter frequently wore in her hair, as well as some of her clothes to fans who gathered outside Amy's home, the report said.

Amy Winehouse Toxicology Report Finds No Illegal Drugs in Her System
Posted on Aug 23rd 2011
by Cameron Matthews

Amy Winehouse's family has released the results of the late singer's toxicology tests, which reveal that no illegal drugs were present in the singer's system at the time of her death, the AP reports.

The final tests showed that alcohol was present, but how it affected Winehouse has yet to be determined.

Chris Goodman, a Winehouse family spokesman, released a statement today saying, "Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death."

It was previously suspected that Winehouse died of alcohol withdrawal while others have reported that she had taken hard drugs the night before her death.

The new report does not detail why the singer died. Her family is awaiting the full investigation, which is set to begin in October.

Amy Winehouse's Dad Believes Seizure Killed Her
Sep 10, 2011
by Joyce Eng

Amy Winehouse's father believes his daughter died after suffering a seizure caused by alcohol detoxification, The Associated Press reports.

In a segment taped Friday for Anderson Cooper's new syndicated show, Mitch Winehouse said that he regretted letting the singer try to kick her alcoholism without a doctor's help. As a result, she suffered seizures and would lose consciousness during this period, he said.

"The periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter," he said in the interview, which will air Monday. "It was heading in the right direction."

Winehouse, who had long battled alcohol and drug abuse, was found dead at age 27 on July 23. An initial autopsy failed to determine the cause of death.

No illegal drugs were found in her body, but toxicology reports have shown that alcohol was in Winehouse's system, although it's unclear if it contributed to her death.

Mitch Winehouse added that traces of the Librium, a prescription drug used to fight anxiety and symptoms of alcoholism, were found in her body too.

"Everything Amy did, she did to excess," he said. "She drank to excess and did detox to excess."

An inquest into Winehouse's death is set to begin next month.

Cooper's show, "Anderson", premieres Monday.

Amy Winehouse Died From Drinking Too Much Alcohol, Coroner Rules
10/26/2011
by Lindsay Powers, Mimi Turner

The results of the inquest into Amy Winehouse's death have been revealed.

The Grammy winner died from alcohol poisoning, a London coroner said Wednesday.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway tells the Associated Press the verdict has been ruled "death by misadventure" because Winehouse voluntarily consumed alcohol and took on the consequences of her actions.

A pathologist's report found that Winehouse had consumed a "very large quantity of alcohol," and was more than five times the legal limit when she died.

The singer's body was discovered at her North London home on July 23. She was just 27 and had fought a very public battle with both alcohol and drugs during her short but notable musical career.

Sitting at St Pancras Coroner's Court in London, Greenway said of Winehouse: "she had consumed sufficient alcohol at 416 mg per decilitre of blood and the unintended consequences of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death."

The British legal limit for driving under the influence of alcohol is 80mg.

The singer's weight loss, tiny frame and bronchial problems are also likely to have increased her exposure to the effects of alcohol on her system. The hearing was told that she had not consumed any alcohol in the three-weeks leading to her death.

An earlier toxicology report published in August had found that there were no illegal drugs in her system, despite press reports claiming she had been out the night before her death buying drugs in North London.

The inquest also heard that live-in security guard Andrew Morris had checked on the star on the morning of the 23rd July and thought she was in bed sleeping. He called the emergency services when he checked on her five hours later and found she had not moved. Empty vodka bottles were found at the scene.

The multi--award winner is widely regarded as one of the most dazzling vocal talents to emerge from Britain in recent years, with hit album 'Back To Black' returning to the top of the charts within days of her death this summer.

i just heard about this on facebook. Just spontaneously broke into tears while reading this thread, even though i was never a fan. Just have compassion as a fellow human being. Like i said on youtube, had the alcohol not gotten her, it would have only been a matter of time before the drugs did. So sad. RIP Amy!!!
