I hit 2 Sunday night coming back from my girlfriend's. She lives 50 miles from me and that area is bad for deer but after 5 years and no incidents, I hit 2 on the same night and at the same time. The first deer came charging across the road and was in my headlights before I knew what happened. I had absolutely no time to stop and I wasn't about to swerve to try to avoid it. The deer hit the front of the car and slid down the road about 20 feet or so before going into a ditch. The second deer must've been directly behind the first because it hit the side of the car after I had slowed down from hitting the first. I believe it was just stunned because it did get up and ran off into the woods. There was actually more damage to the side of the car than the front. The side has a good-sized dent while the only damage to the front was a small broken piece near the bumper.

They have one sign just past the county line that warns about deer for 8 miles into the next city. The area I was traveling from has no warning signs which is unusual considering the number of deer I see each week along the side of the roads and in the fields. I also see at least one or more dead deer each week so why there are no warning signs is beyond me.

Once the street department or conservation department starts picking up carcasses off the road, they will put up another sign.

I've been traveling that area for 5 years and they still haven't put up any signs.
I hit one several years ago in my husbands truck, it pushed in the grill & damaged the radiator. I wasn't hurt but the deer died. Those deers can come out in front of you in a flash & there isn't much you can do when it happens. I know many people who have hit them over the years. We have a large population of deer here in Tennessee. Glad you didn't get hurt Charles.

While we were traveling in Northern Michigan to our campground a deer jumped out of a ditch and we hit it. Did damage to our truck. It's like it appeared out of nowhere! We reported it to the state police to get confirmation of the damage to the truck for insurance purposes. Usually the deer are most active in early morning or at night but we hit ours at around 11 AM

Coming home Sunday night 2 doe jumped out in front of me in a 35 mph zone. The first one had a meet & greet with my car and the other got away. They literally came out of nowhere and there was no chance to stop.

I've hit two deer. Surprisingly not more since I live in rural Wisconsin and we have a lot of deer. I have had a lot of near misses though. Keeps you on your toes.
The ones I have hit were both on not necessarily back roads; one was a highway and the other was a road near the town I was living in at the time.
The first one was at night and I just had time to see this big shadow flash in front of my car. And it was a big shadow. Big deer. I smacked it, and it ran off. I hope it was ok and given that it was pretty big I think it might have been. My car, a little Renault Alliance, was not so lucky. It bashed in the front and the bent front end managed to cut my radiator hose, so my car would overheat. Even after I got it fixed as well as I could, that car never ran the same and eventually quit working altogether.
The second deer I hit while driving my wife and daughter, and cousin, to my parent's house for Thanksgiving years ago. It was daylight, but there were these big trees next to the road, and this deer came out of nowhere. I smacked into that one, and it went up on the hood, and then fell off over the side. After stopping the car. I looked back and realized the deer was still moving. I didn't have a knife or a gun to put it out of its misery, and I contemplated running over it just to stop it suffering, because I didn't know what else to do. My kid being in the car put an end to that thought, because if she wasn't traumatized by the accident itself, running over a deer would probably do it.
Luckily, some hunters in a pickup pulled up and, after asking if they could have the deer and tag it(I gratefully said of course), one of them went over and quickly and silently put the animal out of its misery with his knife.
Surprisingly, the little car we had, a Neon Ion, just suffered a broken headlight and some minor dents, but it was driveable.
Luckily, I haven't had any other deer incidents besides those.

We have lots of those signs around here.
We have lots of Deer Crossing signs, but I don't think the deer can read because they never cross there.;)
