Lester Maddox ran for (and was between 1967-71) governor in Georgia, not Alabama.

Just thought I'd clear this up :)

I think Mom's Mabley was bigger in the 60's. I think she died in the mid to late 70's.

She was still known at the time this episode aired as a popular comedian. If just wasn't relevant at the time she would not have been mentioned

I think she was still doing some stand up in the early 70's. I remember seeing her on HBO a few years back.

I didn't know the year she died, I just know that it was in the 70's. I knew for sure that she wasn't alive in the 80's lol
