View Full Version : Did Anybody Like Continuation Series to 'Too Close For Comfort', The Ted Knight Show? Brian Damage 07-13-2011, 10:10 AM I didn't, the show just wasn't the same without his daughters in the mix. Anybody like it? Dislike it? 70s show watcher 07-14-2011, 06:21 AM i didnt like it very much without the girls the show became flat and at times downright boring Bronson 07-15-2011, 02:28 PM I agree the show was not the same without Jackie and Sara. mstewart 07-18-2011, 11:20 PM Plus Ted Knight's health that season was rapidly declining. It showed on those episodes especially in the second half of that season. He was a trouper to do every single episode that season as sick as he was. Too bad the show did not do a tribute to him when he passed away to give us fans closure as well as the cast. Even though there were reports he was difficult to work with and many said him and Nancy Dussault did not get along at times. Big3sCompanyFan 09-08-2011, 01:34 AM I was very skeptical at first but I liked it! It was a great idea with Mrs.Stinson working at the Bugler newspaper. It wasn't as good as the first seasons with Jackie and Sara but still good. Nancy gave Ted a glowing tribute on DVD so I find it hard to believe they didn't get along. mstewart 09-10-2011, 09:28 PM I was very skeptical at first but I liked it! Ted, from what I understand, did not like when Nancy stated on TV Guide that she "hated dealing with those people." Nancy was not happy with the lack of development of her character of Muriel Rush and let be more funnier than she was. Nancy Dussault is an excellent comedienne. I was glad the show allowed her to sing at times because she is a powerful singer. Too bad she did not get anymore TV parts after Too Close for Comfort/Ted Knight Show went off after Ted passed away. Plus I find it very hard to believe Ted didn't like TCFC! If he really didn't like it then he would've left! It was his best work ever! Much better than the Mary Tyler Moore Show! TMC 07-24-2023, 02:05 AM Thanks to Tubi, I've had the recent benefit of being able to readily watch all seasons Too Close for Comfort, including Season 6 as The Ted Knight Show. Unless I'm missing something, it really seemed like they only used two sets through the season. There was the Rush residence and the newspaper place that Henry now worked at. And the newspaper place was largely empty. I don't know how to react to this, except that it seems like they weren't working with a large budget. Also, Too Close for Comfort at this point, just feels like an "old man show", kind of like say Barney Miller or Archie Bunker's Place. I don't know if it's simply because Jackie and Sara are no longer around, thus giving the show some "youth appeal". The show does now have kind of a bored with itself vibe. michelala 09-02-2023, 06:40 PM ^Yeah I noticed the 2 set thing myself. Ofc TCFC mainly just had the 2 sets with the downstairs apartment for the girls and the upstairs where Henry and Muriel lived. Seasons 4-5 of TCFC and The Ted Knight show were taped at the same studio. I read somewhere the budget for the show got slashed after it left ABC which is a reason that Audrey Meadows' character left during the first episode of season 4 even though in the storyline they just built an apartment for her on the 3rd floor. I actually liked the Ms Stinson character watching on Tubi but agree losing the 2 girls really hurt the show. It apparently still got really good ratings. I think Ted Knight had a pretty loyal older fanbase from his MTM days that probably watched the show too. TCFC and Gimme a Break were 2 of my favorites from my high school days and part of the appeal was having younger girls/women on them. I remember losing interest when the girls were phased out of both shows. The Henry character was so overprotective of those girls and then suddenly they weren't even mentioned the last season. Only some kind of passing mention I think in the first episode. rusty spike 06-24-2024, 05:21 PM I also have been watching the final season. It's not bad, but it was better when the daughters were causing him grief. I think Mrs. Stinson was a great addition as was Lisa. I think the strength of the last season should be attributed to Ted Knight, who in my opinion, kept the show entertaining despite his failing health. While not every episode is top notch, I think they are still viable and pleasing to watch. icecream 06-24-2024, 05:47 PM Not really. Show was a lot better with Jackie and Sara. |
