View Full Version : New Poster from "The Evil Dead" Remake Released
JamesG 07-12-2011, 03:37 PM Bruce Campbell Joins Twitter and Confirms the Evil Dead Remake

All right, you primitive screwheads, listen up!
If you've seen The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn or Army of Darkness, chances are you already know that Bruce Campbell is the man.
But as good as he's been on "Burn Notice" these past four years and as much as we worship anything he touches, the one thing we and everyone else have wanted from the guy was to see him reprise the groovy role of Ash that gave him his start as a B-movie god.
Lo and behold, a week after joining Twitter, one of his many followers posted the message: "I won't believe in a new Evil Dead film until I see it, or at least not until [Bruce Campbell] tells me to believe in it."
And wouldn't you know it, Campbell wrote back with the message we've been waiting to see for almost two decades: "Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell."
That's right, folks. This is happening, and word on the street is that Sam Raimi's already headed to Detroit to start filming.
No word yet on a release date or who else is going to be in it, but we're just champing at the bit to see the finished product and giddy as all hell to see this thing finally become a reality.
What a great day for horror.

JamesG 07-14-2011, 02:05 PM Diablo Cody Takes on Evil Dead
By Harley W. Lond
Posted Jul 14th 2011
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are producing the remake and teaming with original Dead producer Rob Tapert through Raimi and Tapert's Ghost House Pictures.
Fede Alvarez (Panic Attack) has written the script, but the biggest news is that Diablo Cody is revising it. Cody, of course, wrote the horror flick Jennifer's Body, starring Megan Fox, but that film was a flop.
It'll be interesting to see what the trio of Raimi-Alvarez-Cody come up with -- especially by way of special effects, which were in their infancy when Dead appeared (though it must be said that the in-camera and make-up effects are spectacular).
Sam Raimi made a statement saying:
"We are committed to making this movie and are inspired by the enduring popularity and enthusiasm for the 'Evil Dead' series. We can't wait to scare a new generation of moviegoers using filmmaking techniques that were not available to us thirty years ago as well as Fede bringing a fresh eye to the film's original elements."
There's no word on whether the character of Ash will be in the remake or if Campbell has designs on being in on the action.

JamesG 07-20-2011, 10:37 AM Bruce Campbell Cameo Confirmed for Evil Dead Reboot
Wednesday, July 20, 2011
By: MrDisgusting
As we broke the news exclusively last week, The Evil Dead franchise star Bruce Campbell was rumored for a cameo in the Federico Alvarez-directed reboot that's to go into production some time next year.
Spanish website El Pais caught up with Alvarez who all but confirmed the cameo, while also giving fans some hefty reassurance.
"We realize the mistakes not to make," says Alvarez.
"As fans of the original, we know we are going to offend those who are also fans just by taking this job. We're going to honor the original film along with the existing fans and hope to bring in a new audience as well."
"Because we are fans of the original, we realize that nobody wants to see a celebrity in a remake like this," he continues. "The only recognizable face will be that of Bruce Campbell, and he will be in a cameo toward the end of the film. We are going to change the characters and some story details, while keeping the basic outline of friends who are beleaguered by demons in a cabin alone.
Sam Raimi says there's a fine line between horror and comedy. The original Evil Dead was intended as a straight horror movie with scenes of extreme gore directly designed to shock the viewer. I rented the movie with a friend from a video store at just thirteen years old, and that was a big mistake! The film scared the life out of us."
Diablo Cody is currently rewriting Alvarez's treatment.

JamesG 09-15-2011, 08:14 PM Bruce Campbell Sheds Some Light on the New Ash
Posted by Samuel Zimmerman
Sept 15, 2011
It seems no one is playing Ash in the Evil Dead remake.
In the process of conversing with fans on his Twitter, Bruce Campbell revealed a couple of points about the upcoming Fede Alvarez-directed remake.
Aside from the fact that it shoots "early 2012," Campbell most interestingly stated, "No Ash character currently."
He then elaborated, "ED remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."
Ted Raimi recently hypothesized to Fango the film will possibly shoot in New Zealand, and we all know Diablo Cody is currently polishing the script.
The Ash bit, if true, is most certainly a new, intriguing bit of info. It'd be nice to see the film try and capture the spirit of the first two Evil Dead's without being a carbon copy.
As always, we'll hope for the best.

JamesG 10-27-2011, 07:04 PM Evil Dead Redo Synopsis Sounds Familiar
Source: Ryan Turek, Managing Editor
October 27, 2011
Since the American Film Market is just around the bend, a lot of information is hitting the horror scene as production companies prepare for next week's event.
A synopsis for The Evil Dead redo has hit AFM materials and reads like this:
"Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival."
Bloody-Disgusting says the reason the friends hit the cabin this time is to help one of their own kick a drug addition. Likely a small sub-plot.
Fede Alvarez is going to direct the film; Alvarez, Rodo Sayagues and Diablo Cody are credited for script duties.

JamesG 11-10-2011, 11:08 PM Bruce Campbell on The Evil Dead Remake
Nov 10, 2011
by Robyn Ross
TV Guide asked Bruce Campbell for any updates on The Evil Dead remake.
"We are remaking it, the original. Many people are iffy about it. We wanted to remake a movie that would have better effects, we're better at telling stories now.
We found a young film-maker, Fede Alvarez, who's from Uruguay to direct the thing. In this there's no 'Ash' character and that pisses people off, they go 'How can you have 'Evil Dead' with no Ash?!?!'
We didn't want to have a direct comparison, you would put Ash with all of those characters and people would go 'eh, he was just ok' and I didn't want to put an actor in that position."
When asked if he was going to cameo he simply said, "I don't know."

JamesG 11-18-2011, 08:40 PM Diablo Cody Talks The Evil Dead Remake
Source: Collider
November 18, 2011
Promoting her new film Young Adult, writer Diablo Cody is making the press rounds and she was asked about The Evil Dead remake.
Cody was brought onto the Sam Raimi production to do a rewrite of the script by director Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues.
In an interview with Collider, she states on a few occasions that the film will not carry the type of dialogue she is known for.
"I was nervous to take the job because I thought, Ugh, I’m gonna get sh*t for this. People are not gonna like this, because all people know of me is like 'Juno' and they think I’m gonna pollute 'Evil Dead' with like wacky dialogue and cute stuff and folk music, and it’s like 'No, look I understand what this is. I’m interested in storytelling here and making it scary and good and true to the original'," she said.
Cody added, "Because the director’s draft was really scary, I tried to stay away from some of the big horror set pieces. I didn’t wanna mess with his vision, because he’s the one who ultimately has to shoot it.
That being said, there is a moment near the — I mean it’s unbelievably violent (laughs). Occasionally I threw in a wound here or there. I didn’t write anything extravagant."
The Evil Dead is currently in pre-production for Lionsgate.

By: MrDisgusting
Bloody Disgusting has learned that Ghost House/Mandate Pictures and Sony/FilmDistrict will be taking to New Zealand next March to begin lensing Evil Dead, their redo of Sam Raimi's cult classic 1981 The Evil Dead.
Fede Alvarez directs from his own screenplay co-written with Rodo Sayagues. Revisions were done by Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody.
The story centers on five friends holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead with a demonic force unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival.
As we exclusively reported, there is a drug subplot.
Casting is currently underway for the friends, David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia.
David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie.
Mia is the friend who is heading to the cabin to detox.
Olivia is Mia's best friend/nurse.
Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.

JamesG 12-08-2011, 07:08 PM The Evil Dead is Coming in 2013
by Ryan Turek
December 08, 2011
Sony has locked down a release date for The Evil Dead remake, directed by Fede Alvarez and produce by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert.
Given the recent news shooting will not begin until March, it looks like you'll have a full year or so to gripe more about the fact it is getting made.
The studio - which partnered with Film District to release the remake - announced The Evil Dead is going to strike on April 12, 2013.
That is somewhat at the cusp of the summer movie season these days. I wonder if Sony will be keeping a close eye on how The Cabin in the Woods performs in April 2012 and take a few notes from that release.
Between now and March, expect some casting announcements to start popping up.

JamesG 02-04-2012, 02:30 AM The Evil Dead Finds a New Leading Lady
by Ryan Turek
February 03, 2012
The Evil Dead remake was left without a lead actress after Lily Collins departed from the project last month. It's all good, however, because director Fede Alvarez filled in that empty role with Jane Levy.
The actress will play "Mia," a young woman trying to kick a drug addiction; her friends take her to a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist's tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization.
Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
Levy appeared on "Shameless" and is now seen in "Suburgatory".
She joins previously announced cast member Shiloh Fernandez.
Fede Alvarez is directing the redo of Sam Raimi's classic film.
Raimi is on board as producer and so is Bruce Campbell. Shooting begins soon in New Zealand.

JamesG 02-17-2012, 03:53 PM Jane Levy and Bruce Campbell Talk Evil Dead Remake
by Ryan Turek
February 17, 2012
Very soon, filming will commence on The Evil Dead, Fede Alvarez's remake of the Sam Raimi film starring Bruce Campbell.
Recently, the redo - which saw Diablo Cody coming in to make a few revisions to the script - faced a bit of a casting switcheroo.
Lily Collins had dropped out and Jane Levy then stepped in.
The Insider spoke with Levy about the film:
"I'm so excited. I'm a big fan of the original. To me it's the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They've changed it a lot, but it's still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can't see it.
As for the tone, I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don't know that they meant it to be funny...this one is not funny. It's definitely dark."
The outlet also spoke to Campbell, who serves as a producer on the film.
He didn't necessarily say anything new, but he did confirm that the evil trees will be back, "They're not terribly well-behaved this time either."

The Evil Dead remake is finally rounding out its cast.
Jessica Lucas, who was one of the stars of CW’s "Melrose Place", has joined the production. Genre fans also know her from her role in JJ Abrams' Cloverfield.
Relative newcomer Elizabeth Blackmore is also set for a role in the horror movie. She appeared on "Legend of the Seeker".
Blackmore will be playing the fiancée of Shiloh Fernandez.
It is currently unknown who Lucas will be playing, but it will probably be the best friend of the girl going through withdrawal (Jane Levy) who is also a nurse.

JamesG 08-20-2012, 02:33 PM Bruce Campbell Has Seen The New Evil Dead And Says “It’s Fabulous”!
by EvanDickson
August 20, 2012
Director Fede Alvarez recently wrapped up photography on The Evil Dead, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures’ remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult-hit horror classic, that was shot in Auckland, New Zealand.
The film was written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues (with a polish by Diablo Cody) is produced by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man); Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night) and Bruce Campbell who played the popular Ash character in the original trilogy.
Campbell confirms to Digital Spy that he’s seen the movie – and that he knows why you’re probably concerned – but that it’s all groovy baby!
“It’s going to take a bit to get the ‘Evil Dead’ fans behind it. We know we’ve pissed a lot of them off. We appreciate that and we appreciate their anger and their zeal, but the only thing we want to impress upon them is that we didn’t screw it up. This is going to be just as memorable as the original Evil Dead without being the same movie… You don’t want to remake something shot-for-shot. I can’t believe they remade ‘Psycho’ – what the hell kind of a waste of celluloid is that? It’s a creative medium.
The nice thing is the film looks beautiful. The effects are 10 times better than we ever had access to and the actors are all better than we were in 1979. Though granted Sam Raimi is a mad genius, so we got a crazy result like ‘Evil Dead’ out of this amateur enthusiasm sort of thing.”
On how it’s different from the original.
“There’s none of the original characters. We didn’t want to compare apples with apples. It’s a contemporary movie – just like ‘Evil Dead’ was contemporary in 1979, this is contemporary for young adults now.
It’s basically five new kids who are going to have a really bad night with a brand new director – Fede Alvarez, who was handpicked by Sam Raimi. I’ve seen it already; I think it’s definitely fabulous.”
Will he be making a cameo?
“I’m not at liberty to discuss that. But the thing is we want it to be a standalone movie. You’re going to have some references to the original in there and there’s going to be things the fans will enjoy as far as familiar aspects, but it’s a whole new ball game.”
