View Full Version : This Show could have been better, with one character gone.

I've been watching this show and notice one weak link. The character Jennifer is rather pointless I feel. She no 20 year old, just Above Average 30 who looked her age. She could never pass as 20 -25. I don't see what was the fuss about, compare to someone like Farrah Fawcett back then. She very annoying at times, on how they portray her to be something special. I prefer Bailey, she just looked dorky, because of the big glasses. She has nicer eyes and a nice body as well. I bet in person she would've been a better person also.

They should have got a receptionist similar to the character like Beth on NewsRadio that was kind of goofy. The show could have lasted longer.

I disagree. With or without Jennifer the show would have ended at the same time because of the network. They changed the time slot so many times who could find it.

I don't think she was pointless. Mr. Carlson always came to her for help and there were times that she had helped Bailey gain her confidence. Granted she wasn't as funny or as interesting as some of the other characters, but I do feel that the show would be a tad bit off without her.

At the time the show was on , she was getting the most press from the show. It might not have even lasted 4 years if it wasn't for her.

I think without her, big guy would not be able to do his job and his mother would have fired him.

Jennifer was a key character on the show - no way that place (or the show) would've stayed afloat without her.

the show was force-cancelled because some of the net-execs didn't like the show and wanted to get rid of it despite its huge popularity

i must be the only wkrp fan who always thought loni anderson was overrated in both looks and talent she never did a thing for me as a kid and now as a nearly 40 year old man i still cant see what the big deal was about her .growing up i knew 2 or 3 people who were absoluteley ga ga over her but not me i could have cared less how long she was onscreen every week

well I was never "gaga" over Jennifer but I still feel the character was very important to the show - she wasn't trying to "pass for 25" and I don't think it really mattered whether she was the hottest chick on the planet or anything; it was the inside joke of her magical power she had over everyone, similar to the Fonz

The cancellation of the show had absolutely nothing to do with Jennifer. If the character and the actress was not good for the show, then she would have been kicked out in the second season. She plays an important part in the ensemble because she's a streets smart girl who gets mistaken for a dumb blonde because she is beautiful and she often has a big heart to her friends in the station. I too like Bailey, but she does not have the TV presence like Jennifer.

You could never have had WKRP without Jennifer Marlowe! As someone else already mentioned Mr. Carlson could never have run the station without her. and she was the hub around which all the other wacky characters circled. Herb. Les, Andy, Bailey, and the D.J.'s all had to pass by Jennifer's desk on their way to their workplaces and their interactions with Jennifer were comdey gems. And her interactions with Johnny and especially with Herb were absolutely hilarious. Herb:What did you do this weekend? Jennifer: I let other men have their way with me Herb.

I think Jennifer looks even better now after all these years (unlike Ms. Anderson and her horrible plastic surgery). I'm not sure why her character could be considered pointless. She and the other characters melded together very well and that served to make the show great. Jennifer was a very appealing character and was well played as such by Ms. Anderson.

I loved Jennifer. Besides Venus, I thought she was the coolest one at the station.

I found a few episodes of WKRP online recently, a series I have not seen in many years. Very funny, smartly written series. Like others have said, CBS never really liked the series, and moved it around the schedule and killed it.

Loni Anderson was beautiful, and she has a beautiful body. I will say, and probably because of the times, she had a serious case of "helmet hair". She should have relaxed the hairstyle, cut off about 20 pounds of it off the top and dress down a bit (if Loni wore jeans as tight as Gary Sandy's, no heterosexual male could say 'I dont think she was all that....')

But the woman was absolutely majestic.

Jan Smithers was the more natural of the two and was sort of the opposite-Jennifer. She was more natural looking and had a body just as beautiful as Loni's. Which begs the question, why James Brolin why??

I really enjoy the series and actually laughed at it more now than I did back when I was a kid. Supposedly, people who are in radio say that this is the most realistic show, with one guy I read who stated that other than Less Nessman who was the cartoon, everyone is realistic, including Herb Tarlek.
