Universal Pictures has been pretty hush-hush about the whole thing, but now we finally have the first poster for The Thing to admire.

The story apparently takes place three days prior to the events of the original movie as a Norwegian team of scientists stumbles upon the wreckage of an alien spaceship in Antarctica and discovers an alien life form that looks to have died.

But when it turns out the E.T. is actually alive and well, the scientists soon find themselves fighting for their lives and turning on each other as the alien begins mimicking the crew in an effort to reach the outside world.

In a nutshell, it sounds exactly like the plot of the original movie.

Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., written by Eric Heisserer and Ronald D. Moore, and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Ulrich Thomsen amongst others, we still have to wait until Oct. 14 to see how this baby lives up to the legend.

The Thing Teaser Trailer Scares the Hell Out of Us
By Alex Suskind
Posted Jul 14th 2011

It's very difficult to successfully make a film based off a classic movie, but we have to tip our hat to the people behind this year's The Thing. The teaser trailer was released earlier today, and it looks like viewers will be in for quite a ride.

This Thing is a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 film of the same name.

Taking place three days before the '82 events, Dutch filmmaker Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. will follow the Norwegian crew that we see (what's left of them, anyway) at the beginning of Carpenter's flick.

While this movie does claim to be a prequel, we can't help but point out the similarities: the dog barking wildly; the crew drinking and hanging out, having no idea something very bad is about to go down; the monster taking the place of human beings.

But don't let that dissuade you from at least watching the trailer, which is below.
