There are a few shows that had characters that were mentioned, sometimes heard, but never seen. I have a few examples.

Roy's mother - Wings, well, we did see her once near the end of the series, played by Rose Marie. But I think it still counts, b/c that was the only time! And we had heard a lot about her before then. Also, Edna, the big-faced girl that Antonio dated. We never saw her, either. But from what was said about her, she seemed similar to Maris on Frasier, with a rather "unusual" appearance!

Howard's mother - The Big Bang Theory

Mother Kelp- Happy Days Marion's mother.

'The Secretary' in Mission Impossible. Every tape that eventually self destructed had the closing line: "as always, if any member of your team is caught or killed the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions." Throughout the seven year run of the show the voice on the tape always sounded like the same guy, but we never see him either. Were the tape voice guy and the secretary one and the same? We are never told.

We did see Clarence in one episode, the last or next to last season. Think it was when Fonzie was trying to get Ashley's attention.

In all the episodes of Magnum P.I. that aired we never saw robin masters.

Or did we???? Magnum always thought Higgins was robin:)

Don't know if it qualifies as a "character" but the Sleestak god of the pit on "The Land of the Lost" was often heard roaring but was never seen by the audience or even the show's characters.

He's in the final episode, during Fran/Max's anniversary party (and the subsequent birth of their twins, of course!) and he's also seen in "Ma'ternal Affairs," when Sylvia considers having an affair w/ her doctor. There may have been one or two others, but I know those 2 for sure. :) Steve Lawrence (of Steve and Edie) played the part.

Paige's mom in a Christmas Episode of "Ellen" (ABC). Fun Fact: "Joely Fisher's real-life mother, provides the off-screen voice of her character's mother."

Another not-so-well known unseen character(I forget if we saw him during the shows' run)was Mr."Hatchet Man"Hamlin ,Donald's boss,on ABC's "That Girl".

And,although he talked about her some on "The Lucy Show",Mr.Mooney's wife Irma was never seen.
