Chris Hansen, "To Catch a Predator" Host, Caught Cheating by Hidden Cameras

Oh, the irony ...

It's been reported that Chris Hansen, host of "To Catch a Predator", the controversial "Dateline" show that uses hidden cameras to trap would-be perverts in sting operations, has been caught cheating on his wife ... in a sting operation using hidden cameras.

According to The Daily Mail Hansen found himself on the receiving end of his own hidden camera tactics after the married NBC anchor was secretly filmed on an illicit date with a blonde television reporter 20 years his junior.

He was the subject of a four-month long sting operation conducted by The National Enquirer after he allegedly began an affair with former NBC intern Kristyn Caddell, a 30-year-old Florida journalist.

The Connecticut-based Hansen has been spending more time in South Florida recently for work, reportedly investigating the disappearance of James "Jimmy T" Trindade for "Dateline".

Hansen has worked for NBC for two decades, but became famous with "To Catch a Predator". Launched in 2005, the show is devoted to the subject of identifying and detaining those who contact people they believe to be below the age of consent over the Internet for sexual liaisons.

The show's producers work with online watchdog Perverted-Justice, whose volunteers pose as underage girls offering sex on the Internet. But when the potential sexual predators arrive to meet the girls, they find themselves confronted by Hansen, his film crew and sometimes the police.

Neither Hansen nor NBC has yet commented publicly on the alleged affair.

Well, it's obviously not on the level of being a child predator, but still...there is a measure of hypocrisy there, for sure.

Chris Hansen Loses "Dateline" Anchor Job After Scandal

"To Catch a Predator" host Chris Hansen has been embroiled in a scandal since reports surfaced that he'd been caught cheating on his wife.

Now it seems that the scandal may have cost him more than just marital harmony -- it may also have cost him a much-coveted job.

According to The New York Post, NBC was set to name Hansen as the new "Dateline" anchor next month after current anchor Ann Curry landed the top job at "Today", but the plan has been scrapped by NBC brass, who believe the scandal has damaged Hansen.

The Post quotes a source as saying that "Hansen was to be announced as a lead anchor. ... While NBC is publicly playing down the scandal, it's thrown their plans into disarray. Kate Snow may now have to get the job, but she's been on the show only a year."

Hansen has worked for NBC for two decades, and became famous with hidden camera series "To Catch a Predator". Launched in 2005, it is devoted to the subject of identifying and detaining those who contact people they believe to be below the age of consent over the Internet for sexual liaisons.

He was allegedly caught cheating on his wife in a hidden camera sting operation mounted by The National Enquirer.

The Post reports that a further scandal could be brewing after rumors surfaced that Hansen had sent explicit photos of himself to his girlfriend and is terrified they could now be published à la Weinergate.

When asked by the Post for comment, an NBC rep said "This couldn't be further from the truth. Ann Curry is the anchor of 'Dateline.'" The rep didn't respond when asked if they had planned for that to change.

Harry Smith will probably take the job as anchor now that he's moving to NBC, at least until Brian Williams' new program begins!

Harry Smith will probably take the job as anchor now that he's moving to NBC, at least until Brian Williams' new program begins!

Harry Smith has officially joined NBC News. The former CBS News anchor will join Brian Williams' new primetime newsmagazine.

"A veteran in the industry and highly regarded journalist, we're honored to have Harry on board as one of the correspondents of the new primetime newsmagazine show," Steve Capus, president of NBC News, said in a statement.

"His vast experience, covering everything from interviews with world leaders to wars and natural disasters, makes him a perfect fit for this new broadcast. Plus, Harry also brings a well earned reputation for being a great colleague and co-worker -- something we truly value at NBC News."

...that Chris Hansen conducted his "To Catch a Predator" segments while he was being unfaithful to his own wife {"Do as I say, not as I do"}. It's sad, but there are plenty of "two-faced" people in the media business like him who take a stand against something [and report about it], yet privately practice exactly what they're crusading against.

I have this unsettling feeling that, if Jeff Zucker were still head of NBC/Universal, he would have insisted Chris take over as anchor of "DATELINE", regardless of how guilty he is [and Zucker would have defended his decision by saying, "This incident can only add to the prestiege and ad revenue for 'DATELINE'. We need him- he's got that...certain something that reaches out from the screen, and touches women everywhere...And besides, Harry Smith is so---boring"] ;)

I have never understood why NBC got rid of Stone Phillips. To me, he was and still IS the face of Dateline.

There are two things wrong with that sentence. In general it reads like a rather gratuitous indictment of what some are so fond of calling "the lamestream media." If you have other examples of, um, exactly what you describe I'd love to see them. Secondly the use of the word "exactly" in this particular case is just not fair or correct. Now I'm no fan of Hansen, I've always thought he was a sanctimonious jerk. But being unfaithful to his wife with a woman over the age of 30 is not *exactly* like doing an Anthony Weiner number online with a 14-year-old.
