View Full Version : Fourth of July
tiredmike59 06-29-2011, 01:14 PM Its getting close to that time of year again, when some folks will blow a whole paycheck on fireworks,They're just arsonists at heart. When
we were kids, we bought all of ours from DAVE'S DUDS " cheapest
fireworks in town " . We didnt buy the kiddie stuff, snakes, sparklers,
we were after the dangerous stuff. We would get these bottle rockets
that we called shhh-bangs, because thats the sound they made the
second you lit them, they wouldnt give you enough time to throw
them, usually blew up next to your ear. You could tell who shopped at DAVE'S
DUDS because they would have burned fingers, singed eyebrows and
constant ringing in their ears. That was back when they had a higher
class of gunpowder, the ones they make now are not as powerful.
A lot of people in my neighborhood just shoot off their guns on the
fourth of july, I guess they consider that safer. What ever you do
for the fourth of july, try and have a safe one.
Miss Lisa 06-29-2011, 06:23 PM Well, I wouldn't say all of us get the kiddie stuff. Last year Andy bought bottle rockets, some roman candles and something else but I can't remember what they were called. I shot off a couple of each, we did them right over lake Erie.
JamesG 06-29-2011, 07:00 PM Fireworks are illegal where I am since the mid-2000s I think.
Though many people still manage to get them for the 4th and around Chinese New Year.
The NYPD are always on patrol looking for fireworks going off around the 4th.

Haha, they're illegal here too, but that has never stopped us. You just got to watch while you're doing them.

mystery_daisy 06-30-2011, 01:49 AM We are just going to see fireworks. We are lucky to live a couple of miles around the lake from the Kemah Boardwalk in Texas so they had fireworks every friday night this month. Also there will be a big fireworks display for 4th of July. Since my complex burned to the ground in February, we won't be shooting any off ourselves, yanno. Don't want to take chances. Some drunk guy passed out trying to fry food in the middle of the night, so half the residents lost their homes in the fire and one person did lose his life.
You guys have fun and BE CAREFUL. :D
Schmoopie 06-30-2011, 01:57 AM I used to love July 4th, but sadly a lot of the festivities in Seattle have disappeared due to funding and so forth. This year and last year they had to raise money from the people of Seattle to hold their fireworks at Gasworks Park. That's just kind of sad, IMO.

This is what drives me nuts, they ban Americans from celebrating an American holiday but they let the Chinese and others celebrate their New Year with fireworks. MORONS.
I may do some fireworks this year, they are legal in my town.
Penny Lane 06-30-2011, 11:01 AM We never allowed our kids to have firecrackers. But we did have sparklers. We would always be there to supervise and I kept a bucket of water there to douse the burnt ones and as insurance if anything went wrong. patriot:
MrCleveland 06-30-2011, 04:31 PM I just hope we don't have to see Giant Snakes rather than Fireworks in the near future. ohno:
The Great One 06-30-2011, 06:04 PM There will be a lot of places near my home on the 4th of July that will display fireworks so it will be great to watch the sky at night on that day!
Riley Martin 06-30-2011, 06:08 PM they are illegal here, but it doesn't stop anyone from going over to the surrounding states either.:)
[begin rant]
I would think if Illinois finally made them legal they could actually use the tax money on something worthwhile instead of jacking up taxes on its citizens. Of course this is Illinois, and being stuck on stupid like always, the money probably would mysteriously find its way to Chicago and the overpaid corrupt politicians in Springfield and we would be facing yet more pointless taxes put on us residents...
Then again I always like going into surrounding states to give them money, if it means screwing over Illinois I am all for it...:p Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri are all within a 50 mile radius where I live.
[end rant]
tiredmike59 06-30-2011, 07:35 PM You are happy to come to Missouri ?
Riley Martin 06-30-2011, 08:12 PM Yep, I come there maybe once or twice every few months.
Is it just as bad as IL, from a resident's point of view?
tiredmike59 06-30-2011, 08:36 PM Probably like this;
Missouri is Bonnie
Illinois is Clyde
JamesG 07-03-2011, 11:30 PM Just saw on the news that the NYPD has confiscated 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks.
They blew them up and put it on the web:

robyrob 07-04-2011, 12:08 PM i like fireworks when they are held as a family-friendly community event, what I can't stand is the jerks shooting them off all day and night for the weeks surrounding holidays, the complete morons firing their guns in the air (why can't they learn the HARD way the dangers involved in this?), and the complete IDIOTS that let CHILDREN loose with fireworks.
for the past week I have watched dozens of neighborhood kids which appear to be anywhere from 6 year olds to teenagers playing with fireworks completely unsupervised - literally in their front yards and in the middle of the street, i am just surprised that no one has gotten seriously hurt yet.
JamesG 07-04-2011, 12:57 PM ^ I remember an incident that happened near me around the mid-90s.
Some 14-15 year olds had the bright idea to light fireworks and put them inside a metal garbage can and close the lid. It became like a grenade with shrapnel flying all over and one kid was killed and the others around the area were seriously injured.
ekkostar 07-04-2011, 10:44 PM The neighbors here were shooting them off last night, pretty close to the tree tops. Thankfully they stopped but it's still a fire hazard. SMH.
