View Full Version : Will sitcoms be as funny as they were in the 80s? ckrtpametulia 06-06-2001, 08:59 AM will they i know its kinda stupid callmetootie 06-06-2001, 09:07 AM No. I think that it was the fashion of the way sitcoms were made in the 80's, that made them so good. ------------------ Andrew Carden EKWROCKS 07-11-2001, 02:24 AM I agree 80's sitcoms rocked!! the 90's sitcoms are all about stuff that I can't relate too!! plus most of them just aren't funny and none of the characters are defined enough for people to syphathize with or relate too!! that's why they all come and go so fast!! Dude111 06-15-2024, 04:11 PM Most people are so conditioned and dumbed down now THEY CANT ACT!!!!! (They can barely be themselves) I frankly have no desire to see anything made now..... Last thing I liked was Law and Order SVU........ 1960'sTVfan 06-15-2024, 05:48 PM My favorite decade for sitcoms is the 1960's but there are some good ones from the 50's and 70's also. For the most part, with only a few exceptions, I don't watch TV shows, including sitcoms, from the 1980's and going forward. To me, the 1950's to 1970's were the best decades for TV shows, the golden era. Fallon97 06-26-2024, 01:09 PM I loved sitcoms from the 80s. Dude111 06-26-2024, 05:04 PM Ya last really GOOD decade for all that...... All this digital crap has severly affected people.... (By design I think) dee2364 07-03-2024, 07:53 AM Sorry, but I think the 1980s were the worst decade for sitcoms, and this is coming from an 80s kid. A lot of those shows don't hold up anymore, especially because they always had preachy, corny "very special episodes" or dark, dramatic moments. Yeah, even Night Court, a naturally slapstick comedy, fell victim to this trend. Dead2009 07-03-2024, 08:46 AM A better question would have been could they be as funny as the sitcoms from the 90s and the answer is yes, yes they can Dude111 07-03-2024, 04:11 PM The 90s were as bad as the 80s Dead...... The 70s were the last really GOOD unaffected decade.......... Mace Dolex 07-05-2024, 02:40 AM Sorry, but I think the 1980s were the worst decade for sitcoms, and this is coming from an 80s kid. A lot of those shows don't hold up anymore, especially because they always had preachy, corny "very special episodes" or dark, dramatic moments. I agree mostly on the sitcoms in which either a child or a teenager were the main protagonist (Silver Spoons, Small Wonder, Punky Brewster, It's Your Move), there were either too many pop culture references that date the show or like you mentioned they were just too cutesy, I was in that same age bracket but watching as an adult I cringe. Marcus2026 07-05-2024, 05:30 PM To be fair, some 80s sitcoms (and possibly some 90s and 2000s ones) are somewhat dated nowadays. On the other hand, there are a few 80s sitcoms that still hold up to this day (Cheers, The Wonder Years, The Golden Girls, Newhart, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life and A Different World). I also loved the OG Night Court as well. The revival is somewhat of another story. Fallon97 07-06-2024, 03:40 PM Sorry, but I think the 1980s were the worst decade for sitcoms, and this is coming from an 80s kid. A lot of those shows don't hold up anymore, especially because they always had preachy, corny "very special episodes" or dark, dramatic moments. Well, the 70s also had dark or dramatic moments. However, I disagree that they don't "hold up anymore." The 80s had great sitcoms. Fallon97 07-06-2024, 03:42 PM To be fair, some 80s sitcoms (and possibly some 90s and 2000s ones) are somewhat dated nowadays. But so what if they are "dated?" I don't see why that is suppose to be a bad thing. 24/7 reruns 07-07-2024, 09:57 AM Were '80's sitcoms funny? Maybe a couple but most were not very imaginative. Most were formula driven. I mean how many family focused sitcoms were there? The '50's, '60's and '70's are when sitcoms were at their best. Dude111 07-07-2024, 04:27 PM Yup your def right my friend!!!!!!!
