View Full Version : TeenNick's "The '90s are All That" block starts in July! NOT Fall!
DSfan 06-25-2011, 05:38 PM Thought I would start a thread on this in case people didn't catch wind of it.
So, it seems that instead of September or October, TeenNick is starting their block of '90s programming this July! The specific date appears to be Saturday, July 23.
It will air weeknights from 12-4AM and weekend afternoons from 4-6PM.
Here is a link that explains in fuller detail:

Looking forward to All That, Kenan & Kel, and Rugrats. Hopefully they can get some non-Nick, but '90s-era sitcoms, on there too. In addition, would be nice to see shows like My Brother and Me and some of the shows that Nick at Nite would air in the '90s - but let's not get too carried away!
I ran a search for this on Twitter, and it seems many, many people are eagerly awaiting this retro programming block.

ekkostar 06-26-2011, 09:58 AM So, I grew up in the 90s and I think this 90s nostalgia thing is happening way too early. It's far too early for me to get nostalgic about Nickelodeon.
ryan423 06-26-2011, 03:09 PM Can't wait. I was born in 93, but still grew up with all these shows. Between That '70s show on N@N and these shows starting on Teennick, nighttime programming is about to get a whole lot better!
yankeesrj12 06-26-2011, 03:19 PM Yes, finally something to watch between 12am and 4am!!! I'm always up until 3am and there is NOTHING on.
tvfreak1987 06-26-2011, 10:57 PM SWEEEEEET!!!!!!
Buffyboy323 06-27-2011, 11:02 PM Does anyone know if the July schedule is going to be the same schedule they were planning for this fall?

Don't know, but I saw Saved by the Bell is already off?? How did that happen so soon again?

Maybe they'll relaunch it as part of the 90's block.
DSfan 06-29-2011, 06:23 PM Maybe they'll relaunch it as part of the 90's block.
That would make sense, but I don't think they're going to do that. Seems like it's only Nickelodeon shows that they're going to put.
comedyfreak 07-01-2011, 08:34 AM Cool thanks for posting I'll be watching.
bostonmediaguy 07-10-2011, 01:09 PM Any scheduling information available?
Pavan 07-10-2011, 01:41 PM It is not starting July 23, I know that for a fact. Perhaps later in the summer.

Every promotional material I have seen of late indicates July; no mention of the precise programming/schedule, however.
browneyes106 07-10-2011, 10:01 PM It would be cool if Are You Afraid of the Dark was added to the lineup.

I LOVED that show when I was a kid. I really hope they add it!

I loved the original series.
I didn't care too much for the 1999-2000 revival series.

Agreed! Definitely one of the best 90's Nick shows!!
ryan423 07-12-2011, 12:28 PM The '90s Are All That! block will start July 25! New promo video too. (http://www.nickandmore.com/2011/06/24/the-90s-are-all-that-coming-in-july-to-teennick/)
FANTASTIC! I can't wait to see a launch schedule, and an actual list of all the shows they will eventually air.
TKMetal 07-15-2011, 10:28 AM A little disappointed that it's a two hour block with a repeat.

I thought it was 12-4? Have they released the schedule?
ryan423 07-15-2011, 12:19 PM 12:00 - All That
12:30 - Kenan and Kel
1:00 - Clarissa Explains it All
1:30 - Doug
2:00 - All That (Encore)
2:30 - Kenan and Kel (Encore)
3:00 - Clarissa Explains it All (Encore)
3:30 - Doug (Encore)
If they're going with only a 2 hour block with repeat airings, I'm assuming they'll be switching shows on a week-to-week basis.

Still trying to figure out if there will be a weekend block from 4-6PM starting July 30. Does anyone know if that's the plan or not?

I dont think they are doing a weekend block
yankeesrj12 07-16-2011, 09:24 AM Why is everything repeated like that? Come on TeenNick!
Oh well, as long as I get half of the shows I wanted (Kenan and Kel and All That) I'll be good for a few weeks. I just hope Rugrats and The Amanda Show come real soon!
snowpeck 07-16-2011, 11:48 AM Going by the information I have access to, there is no weekend block, and the second week's schedule is the same as the first.
retrofan05 07-17-2011, 01:36 PM I would be okay with them switching out shows on a monthly basis. They would still be able to get in a variety of shows without running the same four into ground. On a side note, it would be cool if they did just a two hour block of the same shows on Nick at Nite; just one or two days, like Friday and Saturday.

I find they have to keep All That and Kenan & Kel at all times and shuffle the other two. It's because of All That and Kenan & Kel that this lineup even exists in the first place. I think those shows were the ones people missed the most - no offense to the other great shows.
TKMetal 07-17-2011, 03:43 PM All That and Kenan and Kel have both ran on the network before, actually at one point Kenan and Kel was in pretty heavy rotation.

Yeah, I remember that. Think it was in 2008 but I guess it didn't last long enough and people want to have them on a more consistent basis. Although, TeenNick is the most inconsistent channel - they're constantly changing the lineup and go from giving shows good timeslots to bad timeslots or no timeslots at all. It's very strange. I blame all of this mass sharing between the Viacom channels - nobody can decide which channel will be the "home" to certain shows at times.

This is a great move for TeeNick, i can't wait to see some of these favorites from when I was growing up. I also agree that I would love to see Step By Step as well, that would just be the greatest.
benjamoon 07-24-2011, 05:07 PM Can I just say that I am SO excited for this block
But also I disagree completely with those of you who say it should show other 90s shows (non-Nick too). Like we really need to see more "Family Matters" or "Step by Step"
With all the Nicktoons and Snick shows not to mention daytime game shows, etc, they could fill this lineup for years
icecream 07-25-2011, 01:06 AM But also I disagree completely with those of you who say it should show other 90s shows (non-Nick too). Like we really need to see more "Family Matters" or "Step by Step"Step by Step isn't airing anywhere and Family Matters is only on at bad times. They're hardly overairing. The overexposed shows would be all the court and talk shows in daytime and the reality shows in primetime.

Agreed. Step by Step hasn't aired on any US cable channel for 2 years when its contract with ABC Family expired. I would love to see it again somewhere.
factsoflife 07-25-2011, 03:30 PM I wish Hey, Dude and Welcome Freshmen were airing, not to mention Fifteen!
But I'll take what I can get. Would also love to see Legends Of The Hidden Temple and The Roundhouse again.
benjamoon 07-25-2011, 04:53 PM Step by Step isn't airing anywhere and Family Matters is only on at bad times. They're hardly overairing. The overexposed shows would be all the court and talk shows in daytime and the reality shows in primetime.
Yes they're not being overaired now but Family Matters had a nice long run on TBS/Nick at Nite while Step by Step had a nice long run on ABC Family. Some of these Nick shows haven't been seen in over a decade. I think they should stick to their own programming.
Pavan 07-25-2011, 07:33 PM TeenNick has aired all of these shows in recent years already, too. Doug is the only one they have never aired. Kenan & Kel, All That and Clarissa were all on the regular TeenNick line-up before.

Well for me personally, I didn't have TeenNick until recently. Plus if they really start digging into the Nick vaults there would be shows that haven't been seen in a really long time. I'd prefer that to shows that have had plenty of exposure on more mainstream cable channels (and IMO aren't that good to begin with)
Pavan 07-25-2011, 10:18 PM There are plenty of '90s series they can use that have not been airing. Blossom is one of them. Step by Step would do well in the ratings. And that's what matters the most. They already stated they have interest in non-Nick '90s series ("The block will feature a rotating line-up of '90s Nick library content, as well as forthcoming acquisitions and feature films from the decade." Read more: http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2011/03/nick-at-nite-acquires-yes-dear-friends.html#ixzz1TAr1BeD5). I don't think they will go deep into the Nick vault much. Besides Doug (which isn't "rare" just hasn't been played in years) these four series they are starting out with are not digging deep. Rugrats, Salute Your Shorts, Pete & Pete, and Amanda Show are probably next.
benjamoon 07-26-2011, 12:04 AM ^^ I'm not saying that they won't do it. I'm saying that I WISH they didn't. I think it would be much cooler to just have classic Nick shows in this particular block, that's all. I'd love to see shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple, Family Double Dare, etc
yankeesrj12 07-26-2011, 12:09 AM According to the Washington Post article, which featured Senior Vice President and General Manager of Nicktoons and Teen Nick, these are the shows that will be featured in the block:
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
The Adventures of Pete & Pete
All That
The Amanda Show
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Catdog
Clarissa Explains it All
Double Dare
Doug
Hey Arnold!
Kenan & Kel
Legends of the Hidden Temple
Nickelodeon GUTS
The Ren & Stimpy Show
Rocket Power
Rocko's Modern Life
Rugrats
Salute Your Shorts
The Secret World Of Alex Mack

He also says to post on the Facebook page for shows you'd want!
retrofan05 07-26-2011, 12:33 AM If they are going to air non-Nick shows, I'd rather see them expand the block or air those shows outside the block. Trying to cram both Nick shows and non-Nick shows into a 2-hour block is just too much.
GolfDude 07-30-2011, 08:38 AM i wish they were more open on saying how often the shows will change.. why does it have to be the same 4 every day.. why cant they theme block it like this:
Mondays: "Newer" Live Action Shows (All That,Keenan,Alex Mack,Amanda)
Tuesdays: Nicktoons Classic (Doug,Rugrats,R/S,Rocko)
Weds: Game Shows (DD,Temple,Guts)
Thurs: Nicktoons Newer (Monsters,Arnold,Rocket,CatDog)
Fri: Live Action Classics (Pete/Pete,Clarissa,Shorts,Afraid)
This way we get more shows, they got bunched by type so you know what is showing up that night..

I like your idea, but I myself am hoping that they turn the block into a Nick at Nite of sorts for Teennick. And with the plethora of shows available, different nightly marathons of Nicktoons and their live-action shows and game shows would work swell!

Yeah they should try and figure out something like that. I agree because, let's say in September they put 4 new shows, I find they may screw themselves. Maybe I'm biased but this block is living off of All That (I mean, even the title of the block includes All That) and Kenan & Kel. I find those are the ones people really want to see. If they take All That off that kind of ruins the whole "90s Are All That" thing or if they don't, then that would mean we're getting less of a variety. So they have to work out this issue one way or another. I'm thinking they just want to make sure the ratings are good enough - which, as of now, they are - before planning too far in advance.

That is a good idea. They could air TeenNick programming (newer Nick shows, Degrassi, and other sitcoms during the day up until like 9 PM and then 9 PM to 6 AM could be "The 90's are All That." That would definitely allow them more room to air more classic Nick shows as well as other 90's shows.
