First of all I didn't even know Howard Cossell had his own show. Second of all, did everyone in the 70's get a variety show??? Thirdly, was this all true that the Odd Couple guest spots were so good that he ABC gave him his own show???

I'm not sure if he got it beacuse of the Odd Couple but I do remember his show. It was called Saturday Live with Howard Cossell. It was the original Saturday Night Live. It premiered in September 1975 before the NBC show premiered. I remember my Dad had to watch it every Saturday night. My Mom and I would laugh at him because the show looked like crap.

I also remember that show. I never saw it, though. It was because ABC was using the title "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" for it that Lorne Micheals had to call "SNL" "NBC SATURDAY NIGHT" at first. Then the ABC show was cancelled though, so that freed up the name. Ironicall, Bill Murray was a regular on it.

Thanks guys!
I figured a show other than a sports show would be a trainwreck if Cosell was hosting it.
