SYDNEY (KTLA) -- Jerry Lewis was rushed to a hospital after falling ill moments before he was to appear at a show in Australia.
The 85-year-old entertainer was so ill that he could not even get out of a car which brought him to the club Friday, reports the UK's Daily Mail.
Lewis, on tour in Australia on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation of Australia, was rushed to a Sydney hospital on Friday just minutes before a scheduled appearance.
According to a written statement issued by MDF of Australia CEO David Jack said the 85-year-old comedian was "not well enough to take the stage." Lewis has struggled with a number of health problems recently, including a debilitating back condition, heart problems and the lung condition known as pulmonary fibrosis.
Last month, Lewis announced his plans to retire as the regular host of the Muscular DA's Labor Day telethon.
