20 years ago, Famed R&B/Soul Singer The Late Luther Vandross Hit #1 on the Soul Chart with a song that he co-wrote and co-produced with Marcus Miller
It's called Power of Love/Love Power
The song was #1 on the Soul Chart for 2 consecutive weeks and it was also a Top 5 Hit on the Pop Chart peaking @ #4
The song is a medley of two songs titled "Power of Love" and "Love Power." "Love Power" had been a minor hit in 1968 for the one-hit wonder R&B/Soul Group called The Sandpebbles
The Sandpebbles version of "Love Power" had made it #22 on the Pop Chart and #14 on the R&B/Soul Chart
Power of Love/Love Power was taken from Luther's 7th Studio Album entitled Power of Love which was his 2nd consecutive Top 10 Pop Album peaking @ #7 and his 7th consecutive #1 Soul Album and the Album was Double Platinum
Power of Love/Love Power was Luther's 7th Top 40 Pop Hit and 2nd Top 10 Pop Hit
It was also his 21st Top 20 Soul Hit, his 19th Top 10 Soul Hit and his 6th #1 Soul Hit
Sadly, on July 1, 2005, Luther Vandross passed away of a Heart Attack @ the age of 54
