View Full Version : Do you like local commercials?
WatershedMoment 06-17-2011, 06:05 PM I absolutely LOVE local commercials, they're hilarious! Have you seen this? A TV show about making local commercials is coming out June 24th! http://youtu.be/m88-1usTz1s
There's a certain indescribable charm to local commercials, I just adore'em
Brad Russ 10-16-2011, 11:01 AM i liked many older local commercials. The most famous here in Oregon is the Tom Peterson's commercials. You rarely see them today, but once in awhile you do. He was one of the main guys who kept Portland wrestling going. He went out of business for a couple years, and came back and changed the name to Tom Peterson's, and Gloria's too since his wife told him not to take the risk when he went out of business. lol
Also enjoyed many of the local commercials with various local wrestlers, most notably Buddy Rose, and Rowdy Piper. Became pretty good friends with them. Miss you Buddy, RIP!! :(
There are others, but those are my favorites.
Brad Russ 10-16-2011, 12:10 PM Ha ha, found them. For all you Pacific Northwesterners, here's a little nostalgia for ya. i had totally forgotten about his famous Tom Peterson haircut. i remember one time mom and dad wanted me to get a Tom Peterson haircut because it was free, but i chickened out. Even at that age i knew i'd look like a dork. Didn't need the kids who made fun of me to have even more ammo. lol
Some may not know this, Tom actually had a cameo in Mr. Holland's Opus during the parade scene where they found out that their son was deaf. i got a kick out of seeing him in that movie.

MickeyMac 10-16-2011, 01:10 PM I find them just as annoying as national commericals.
MrCleveland 10-16-2011, 06:53 PM Many of them in my town are kinda lame.
But look at the News Promo for Channel 5 40 years ago...Looks like The Carpenters had involment with the song!...

Here in Central Florida we have an Applience Store Chain called Applience Direct that has horrendiouly OBNOXIOUS Commercials. :angryfire I cannot fathom how they think being so obnoxious will entice people to visit their stores. As things stand now it would definately be a cold day in  H:censored:L  before I'd buy anything from these as:censored:es!
On the lighter side when I first moved to Florida in 2000 there was a Local Church that had an OUTSTANDING Christmas Commercial that had me   :rotflmao: :brent. It was titled "The True Meaning of Christmas", I called it "The Misadventures of Santa". It had Santa Claus making his rounds, The first house he hits someone sics a Doberman on him, as he leaps out of the Chimney he BARELY escapes a Shotgun Blast. At another house he is surprised by a group of kids, who have camped under the Christmas Tree in their living room waiting for him to arrive (YEAH SANTA!). Looking a bit ragged at this point, Santa sees a Nativity Scene on a Table, and he kneels and prays. They only played the commercial that year, and I never saw it again. :crybaby:

AMackII 08-29-2020, 10:53 AM Yes but not all the time. I do enjoy recent Schnucks commericals as of late
Yes, but I do not like them all the time.

I remember those. During a TV break, they would play two pre-recorded Tom Peterson's commercials, then Tom would do a live in-arena promo, and finally they would play the two pre-recorded commercials again before returning to the action! Somehow the routine didn't get too annoying, but I guess that's a testament to Portland Wrestling's popularity. That's cool that you got to meet some of the wrestlers.
Most of our local commercials are for car dealerships and lawyers so I'm not a fan of them.

Yep that's all we get here in Indy, too. Shouting car dealers, ambulance-chasing lawyers. Maybe some funeral directors and home remodeling/window replacement companies once in awhile.
