View Full Version : Hi, I am new to SitcomsOnline
IllinoisTVFan 06-12-2011, 04:05 PM First off, let me apologize if this is the wrong place to post this because I searched to see if there was a proper place to post this.
Some of you may already "know" me from other tv forums. I was Newwaver on the TVLand boards until I got banned from Link because I called one of the shows trash. My login name was restored but I never went back. That's a lost cause. I also post on the local Chicago site FuzzyMemories as La Princess and I like that one a lot (lots of great people there).
I have lurked here for years, and ironically found this site while looking for DVD reviews. Back in 2006 the Tower Records near my job was going out of business and I would go everyday during my lunch hour. I would often buy TV DVDs and was wondering what other DVDs were out there. I don't have as many DVDs as other people but have a long list of DVDs I plan to eventually buy. I believe I own something like 13 shows on DVD (I have a list somewhere).
Anyway, I am a long time truly classic tv fan who is 40 but loves the older shows. I don't really watch a lot of tv currently because so many to me are just plain garbage. I find myself watching a lot of MeTV and Antenna TV. I despise much of what passes as tv today, notably most reality shows.
robyrob 06-12-2011, 04:30 PM welcome to the boards
Janice 06-12-2011, 04:58 PM Welcome to SitcomsOnline. Nice to have you on board.
IllinoisTVFan 06-12-2011, 05:55 PM Thank you for the welcome. I must say I have been very impressed by the tv shows listed. I found many I didn't even know existed!
Mr. Television 06-12-2011, 06:17 PM Welcome to Sitcoms Online.

IllinoisTVFan 06-12-2011, 07:47 PM Thank you Robyrob, Janice, Stuck in the 70's and Reverend Jim. That's a very nice graphic Reverend Jim and I figured you were a Taxi fan. That was a great show. The show on the TvLand forums I called trashy I believe was either The Cougar or She's Got The Look. While not a fan of every classic show, I wouldn't insult older shows. Stuck, you must be aGunsmoke fan. That's a great show and my mom watches it all the time. She was sad to hear of James Arness' passing.
70s show watcher 06-12-2011, 08:09 PM hi im donald welcome to sitcoms online i hope you like it here:wave:
dakert 06-12-2011, 09:51 PM Welcome  What shows do you own on DVD and what are some of your favorites?
IllinoisTVFan 06-12-2011, 11:20 PM Thank you Donald and Dakert. I like many shows I don't have on DVD but here's a list of those I do have on DVD and VHS:
•The Andy Griffith Show, Seasons 1-3, DVD
•The Andy Griffith Show, Five Pack, VHS
•The Andy Griffith Show, Aunt Bee The Warden, VHS
•The Andy Griffith Show, Barney’s First Car, DVD

•All-Star Family Feud, DVD
•The Flintstones, Seasons 1-6 (Series Complete On DVD), DVD
•The Fugitive, Volumes 1-2, VHS
•Hill Street Blues, Season 2, DVD
•In Living Color, Seasons 1-3. DVD
•The Jeffersons, Seasons 1-3, DVD

I have a list of tv shows I want but can't find the list. At the top of the list is the I Love Lucy complete series box. A couple of these (namely the Closer)I won from a radio station. Others I bought cheap.

Penny Lane 06-13-2011, 04:46 PM Hi! Welcome to Sitcoms Online! I agree with you that today's tv programming leaves a lot to be desired! I prefer 70's/80's sitcoms and dramas over the garbage that is on today! Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time here with us. I have been here since '01 and it's a fun place to be!
IllinoisTVFan 06-13-2011, 04:50 PM Thanks Penny Lane. It does seem like a fun place to be.
The Great One 06-13-2011, 05:10 PM Welcome to Sitcoms Online!!! You will enjoy the time you spend on this website. There are a lot of great people here! By the way, have you ever been to Home Run Inn pizza in Chicago?
IllinoisTVFan 06-13-2011, 05:15 PM Thanks Great One. Yes, many years ago I was at Home Run Inn. If I'm not mistaken I don't think I lived too far from there.

I meant to ask, Reverend Jim:
Why do you always post your messages as JPGs?
I wish Disney would release Seasons 4 and 5 of The Muppet Show on DVD
IllinoisTVFan 06-14-2011, 11:42 PM Me too. I love the Muppet Show.
snowcreature23 06-16-2011, 02:46 AM hello from Alaska:wave:
ekkostar 06-16-2011, 10:19 AM Don't be surprised if you don't get many replies outside of Off Topic and General Sitcom News.
What in the heck has happened to all the posters? Have they all migrated to that awful tv.com or, heaven forbid, LiveJournal?
I stopped updating my How to Succeed in Business topic in the Night Court forum because nobody seemed to care.

Brad Russ 07-03-2011, 06:58 PM Welcome to the boards IllinoisTvFan! Looking forward to seeing your posts. Sorry you got banned from the TvLand boards. I got warned myself, for speaking my mind about Rob Reiner. I don't go their anymore either. The moderators are way too uptight. Anyway, have a great day friend!
Yooch 07-03-2011, 07:57 PM Welcome, Illinois TV fan!
IllinoisTVFan 07-04-2011, 03:09 PM Thanks everyone. Brad Russ, what did you get warned about? I know one of my warnings was asking why all of the High School Reunion people looked like models.

A bunch of people were putting Rob Reiner down for something he said at the tv land awards. It was just a joke he made, in reference to All In The Family. He said something about how Archie would defend the war, and Mike would reply by saying something that opposed the war. Can't remember what he said though. I just thought it was stupid, because he was obviously joking, and I just thought people were overreacting, and making too big of a deal over nothing. I'm a conservative, and so it may sound odd, but I took up for him, and might have said a nasty thing or two, to the people who were dissing him. lol ;)

Thanks or explaining what happened. Politically I am more on the issues than a side (meaning I am neither a Dem or a Rep) and I completely agree with what you said. People on there take things way too seriously and that always bothered me. Sort of like when people would talk about a topic and say "conservatives like this" or "liberals like this". I would tell them I am neither but believed a certain way.
