I guess I'm feeling especially nostalgic: looking for any episodes of Bozo with the Grand Prize Game, also known as Bozo Buckets

Looking around the net a bit, it seems like this was every kid's dream back then was to play this game...and there was a VERY long wait to get on this program, longer than any other in fact, over 10 years in some cases. I remember some of the most frequent prizes were a box of cookies and a red wagon, anyone remember any others?

Was this the game they were playing in an infamous and often sought episode where some kid lost the game and told Bozo to "shove it" or some such insult?

I remember reading speculation about the event, and some people believe it to be an urban legend. However, at least one man who played Bozo claimed it actually occurred.

An interesting bit of TV lore nonetheless.

i remember reading about that on snopes.com, but i don't know if it's true or not.

i do recall watching an episode where a boy cheated and walked past the line on the floor and just dropped the balls in the buckets. I was a little annoyed that they let him get away with that a couple times.

yesterday, i was watching a few clips on youtube, and Bozo asks this kid how he got a scrape by his eye, and he said "my dad hit me" I just sat there in shock and disbelief. there's another one with wrestler CMpunk on there, who upstages Bozo.

That's pretty wild about the kid admitting his Dad hit him. As I understand it, Bozo was broadcast live in many markets (some cities had their own Bozo "franchise"). Combine live TV and kids and you some times get some interesting results.

I remember talking with another collector who told me about an episode he saw where a kid asked Bozo where the bathroom was.

Another anecdote came from a friend of mine about an episode he watched where a kid actually walked/climbed out of the audience during the Grand Prize Game (presumably while some other kid was already playing or had just finished) and the kid said "Hey Bozo, can I play too?"

The only noteworthy things I personally remember from Bozo myself were seeing a couple kids win the game, which was rare. I also remember one kid who couldn't even get the ball into the first bucket. Granted I always rooted for the kids and wanted them to do well, and I'm sure the game is more difficult than it looks, but to be defeated by the first bucket?! That's pretty pathetic.

Anyhow, good luck in your search for Bozo!

thanks Justin!

The ones I used to watch were the Chicago ones, and those were the most popular. Another frequent prize were cakes from local Chicago bakeries. I learned that Willard Scott was once the Bozo from the Washington, D.C. area.

A few years ago I had asked about something along these lines but came up empty.

Not wanting to pay money to track this down, the one person who said he had what I was looking for did not pan out.

Either way, Bozo fans, if you've got this jingle/bumper from WGN back in the 80s, I'd love to get ahold of a copy. I always remember hearing this when I was watching Bozo at my grandmother's house.
