There can't be that many. I'll name the ones I can think of.

The Andy Griffith Show / Mayberry R.F.D.
All in the Family / Archie Bunker's Place
Three's Company / Three's a Crowd
The Golden Girls / The Golden Palace
Good Morning, Miss Bliss / Saved by the Bell / SBTB: The College Years
Scrubs / Scrubs: Med School (also known as season 9 of the original show)

I guess we can also count:
What's Happening!! / What's Happening Now!! (There was a gap in between seasons, but I consider them to be the same show just with six or so years in between seasons 3 & 4)

Are there others?

Are you limiting this to comedies? Because this list could go on for a while if you count dramas as well. Here are a couple more that I can think of off the top of my head:

Cheers/Frasier
Friends/Joey
Diff'rent Stokes/Facts of Life
Happy Days/Mork & Mindy/Joanie Loves Chachi/Laverne & Shirley

Even your list has a few omissions, in addition to Archie Bunker's Place, All in the Family also spun off Maude and The Jeffersons, and Andy Griffith also spawned Gomer Pyle USMC.

Nope, not just comedies. I mean they're the main ones I, personally am into but I'd love to hear about other genres as well.

I'm not talking about "spin-offs" in which they take a character from the show and give them their own show. I'm talking about Continuations, which are generally known as "spin-offs" but are really just the next seasons of a show with a different title.

I'll explain:

When, in 1968, Andy Griffith announced he was leaving "The Andy Griffith Show", they simply cast Ken Berry to be the new star of the show. Since it couldn't be called "The Andy Griffith Show" anymore, they changed the title to "Mayberry R.F.D." and continued for three more seasons.

In 1979, after finishing nine seasons of "All in the Family," it was decided to change the focus of the show from the Bunkers at home to Archie at work at his bar. The series was retitled "Archie Bunker's Place" and lasted four more seasons.

In 1984, the producers of "Three's Company" had decided to change things. They got rid of Janet, Terri, Larry and Furley, focused on Jack and his new live-in girlfriend, Vicki and continued under the new title "Three's a Crowd."

In 1992, Bea Arthur left "The Golden Girls." They shot a series finale and then the next season got the three remaining "girls" back together for a new show where they run a hotel. Though it could still be conisdered The Golden Girl's last season, just without Dorothy and set at a hotel.

All of these follow-up shows are considered Spin-Offs but really are just Continuations of the original series.

As for "Scrubs," the creator of the show wanted it to end with season eight. He made a series finale but ABC wasn't ready to let it go. So it was renewed for a ninth season. Lawrence (the creator) wanted it to have a different name (Scrubs: Med School) and be considered a spin-off but ABC wasn't prepared to change the name. So that's a show that's generally considered the final season of the show despite Lawrence's wishes.

The examples you gave are very simply spin-offs. I apologize for not explaining myself earlier.

Not sure how to classify M.A.S.H./After M.A.S.H., its sort of a continuation series, but a completely different setting. Maybe its more a spin-off.

Ah, gotcha, I just saw the word spin-off and thought, "dang, there's a bunch of those!" Your criteria does make it a bit more tricky. :)

Yeah, I was thinking about this one, too. I think it's more of a spin-off. "M*A*S*H" was set in Korea during the war. "AfterMASH" followed the lives of three of the regular characters after the war is over and they've gone home. It seems to me more like a "Frasier" or "Joey" where it's after the original show is over and takes some characters (or in the case of Frasier and Joey, just one character) in a new setting for a new story.

I've changed the title of this thread so there wouldn't be any more confusion. This isn't for straight up spin-offs. It's about shows that are considered to be spin-offs but technically are just continuations of the original series.

Jeff's Collie was the syndicated title for the Tommy Rettig episodes as was Timmy and Lassie for the John Provost episodes so they're not a continuation. I'm not sure if Lassie's Rescue Rangers would count or not but since it's Adam's thread, he can decide that.

When I last logged on to this thread someone had posted what was obviously SPAM. So I posted a thread so it wouldn't appear as the "Last Post". I've seen those things stay on for days!

Re: Lassie

This show ran for 19 consecutive seasons from 1954 to 1973, 17 years on CBS and the last two in syndication.

I was six years old when I first watched Lassie and it was well into the "Ranger" years then. I soon became aware that there were two older "versions" of this show being played on weekend afternoons (at least in my area, near Detroit, Michigan), the aforementioned Jeff's Collie and Timmy & Lassie. At least I always believed that there were two other "versions". Why? I wouldn't find out until after the advent of the Internet. It was then I learned that this show was one long series, and when they decided to syndicate it, they also decided to "Split" the series, running the first three seasons as Jeff's Collie, Seasons 5-8 as Timmy & Lassie and Seasons 12 -19 as simply Lassie. The Buffoons who broke up this series left out four seasons! Including the season where we are first introduced to Timmy who later becomes Lassie's Owner (Season Four) and the Season where Timmy's Family moves to Australia (Season 11) and a Quarentine Law forces them to leave the dawg behind, and she ends up with the Rangers. They also left out Seasons Nine and Ten where Lassie had interludes away from the Farm. The Producers of this series realised John Provost was growing up, and they were looking for a way for the series to continue without him. Some of the Charactures in these Episodes were looked upon as "Candidates" for lassies next Owner, these included Truck Drivers, Air Force Acadamy Cadets and of course, the one they finally chose, the Forest Rangers. It wasn't until, using a method I refuse to say on the grounds it may incriminate me, was I able to see these "Lost" Episodes, and put all the pieces together! :D

I can certainly understand that but the best thing to do is to report any spam you may see and an Admin. or Mod. will take it from there. I report a ton of spam and it's almost always eradicated very quickly. Spam that goes unreported will most likely stay around until someone does report it or if an admin. or mod. happens to catch it.

Star Trek The Original Series '66-69 and Star Trek The Animated Series from '73-'75 This animated series continues the adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise, taking advantage of the visual freedom of animation to present stories with more alien elements. How about The Lucy Show '62-'65 with Lucy Carmichael and Vivian Bagley then '65-'66 Lucy Carmichael moved from Danfield to L.A. and was on her own continuing her adventures with Mr. Mooney.

This thread is really hard. For the most part shows that you mention like Archie Bunker's Place and Three's a Crowd are spin-offs like Frazier and Joey the minute only one surviving cast member makes its to the new show.

To me a continuation of a show is one that keeps a larger percentage of the original cast like;

What's Happening? - What's Happening Now?
MASH - AfterMASH
The Andy Griffith Show - Mayberry RDF
Saved by the Bell - Saved by the Bell: The College Years
