....the FCC used to have a rule; until the 80s; that said if a network was showing reuns during the day of one of it's shows that was also showing original episodes in prime time; then they had to name the reruns some else. "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW" became "ANDY OF MAYBERRY", "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW" became "THE DICK VAN DYKE DAYTIME SHOW", "DRAGNET" became "BADGE ____" (Fridays badge number-I forget what number it was) but how come certain shows didn't do it? Like ABC didn't do it with the daytime reruns of "BEWITCHED", "THAT GIRL", and "LOVE AMERICAN STYLE" and CBS didn't do it with daytime repeats of "ALL IN THE FAMILY", "THE JEFFERSONS", "ALICE", "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES", "ONE DAY AT A TIME", "THE LUCY SHOW", "HERE'S LUCY", and "FAMILY AFFAIR".
Why not?

Why not?i dont know i actaully didnt even know that it was an fcc rule i always thought that the title changes came from some producers who thought that we viewers were too stupid to tell the difference between a new ep and a rerun

To the best of my knowledge, there was no rule by the FCC. Some Studios, for reasons I couldn't fathom, did tweak or change the names of shows. I remember reruns of Bonanza called Ponderosa, Emergency & CHIPs were Titled Emergency One & CHIPs Patrol respectively. IMO it was kind of stupid.

It's getting to the point now where the show is aired earlier in the week and then rerun on a cable network within a few days of the initial run. House M.D. on Bravo is a good example.
