What's Happening had Rob's Place, Frasier had Cafe Nervosa, Friends had Central Perk, Happy Days had Arnold's and Cheers had....well Cheers! Do you think there should've been a better place for Mary & her friends and colleagues to hang out after or before work than at Mary's apartment?

I think in this case their workplace (the newsroom)is their hangout,. They spend 8 hours a day together there so they don't need another place to hang out together after work.

Very true, but the same could be said about Taxi which had "Mario's" as a hangout.

What could be cooler than hanging out on the set of The Happy Homemaker, singing Christmas carols in November?

No, because the show was mostly about professional co-workers. They don't normally hang out together on a regular basis.

That's true, but it seemed the Mary Tyler Moore Show Cast was an exception.

Actually, there were numerous occasions where they were gathered at a bar. There's the one bar/restaurant where they sit in a large booth. In the one episode, where Mary's trying to "fit in" with the guys, and Murray says something to Gordy about the (Minnesota) Twins, and Mary says, OH Gordy I didn't know you had twins! ---- Anyway they were in that bar a few times, although I don't know if it had a name.

I don't think they needed a set place to hang out. At work they spent time together and then it was just easier for Rhoda and Phyllis to go to Mary's apartment. It was actually kind of more realistic that they didn't have a set place to meet. My friends and I don't have a set place, we just go where we feel like going at the time.

I know Taxi and Mario's have been mentioned, but I really don't think the idea of a regular hangout was the norm back in the 70's. So TMTMS didn't really need one. I know later shows like Friends and Murphy Brown had hangouts, but that was long after TMTMS was off the air.
