I know that Linda Lavin thought she had to outshine everyone in the show and didn't like it when someone else like Flo got the attention. But I tried to picture how she was with the co stars on the show. I think I got my answer on an episode of the OC. Linda played Sandi Cohen's mother and was a really rude and opinionated woman. She would say things to hurt people and didn't seem to care how they felt. When I was watching her on the OC, I started thinking. I bet she was that way to the co stars of Alice in real life and that's why she played a mean woman so well.

You can't judge the real person with a character she is playing. She was mean when we first meet her but as she made more appearances she mellowed.

I wonder how she was to work with on Barney Miller?
