I was very surprised when I went on the Unsolved Mysteries Wiki and someone had posted that Robert Arcieri had been arrested :D and there was a link to it. This is the link:

I don't think I ever thought he would be arrested.

Very Interesting. Glad this case might be brought to a conclusion now.

Awesome! Now this is one I wasn't expecting to be solved since no one was even sure if he was still alive. Considering the so-called drowning took place 24 years ago, I figured that even if he did fake his own death and start a new life, he might have wound up dying by natural causes now anyway (a quick check shows that he is currently 72 years old). It's interesting to note that even though authorities were skeptical Arcieri was dead, his family still collected a $700,000 life insurance policy. I don't know how these situations work, but I wonder if they'll be expected to reimburse that money now that he's been found alive.

I'm actually quite thrilled with the number of UM cold cases that have been finding some sort of resolution or progress within the last several months. After Mike Riemer, this is the second recent case where they've finally determined whether a missing person is a fugitive or dead. Since things like this usually come in threes, I'll vote for Dub Wackerhagen to be next!

I don't remember this case and can't find it online. Was it a rare segment?

You'll be able to find it if you do a search on "Bob Arcieri". I believe the only version available online is the Spike TV Dennis Farina version.

Okay, I looked this case up on unsolved.com. It says at the bottom that his family collected $750,000 in life insurance presuming he was dead! Will they have to pay that back now that he is alive and well??

I sure hope so. I was actually under the impression that Arcieri really was dead. I kept telling myself, "There's no way he's alive after all these years", but I was wrong. Glad that he was apprehended, though.

Never believed the drowning story and always felt the people who said it was (that were "witnesses") were lying. Hopefully the victims will feel better about this and Arcieri can finally pay for what he has done.

Ok is this the one where he was fishing with some friends and he just vanished? Or was it where he went on a solo trip and they just found a boat?

Ok now I think I know which one exactly this one is. He went for an alleged last hoorah, right before prison and happened to fall over?

Wow! So did the nephews who were on the fishing trip know he was alive all this time? I'd say they did, in which case they kept that secret well.

They just showed this on UM last week and he's guilty as hell. His accomplices have already said he did it so it's almost a slam dunk!

They didn't have the update though. Is the new UM even filming updates anymore??

The show is not in production right now, so I don't think there's anyone that would have the rights to splice in an Update to the segments from the Dennis Farina episodes at this time.

They were planning to produce 175 episodes, they may have already hit that number. They haven't made a "new" episode since 2010, but they did update the Sandra Levy case with a "correspondent" (maybe a Lifetime employee) so they may do this with this case.

I've also heard there was another case that had an update with someone other than Farina. Wish I knew which one it was.

We'll see what they do the next time they play this case again, although it probably won't be for awhile since it just played last week. I hope they update it, if they don't it will almost be like the purpose of the show isn't solving mysteries anymore, just entertainment. But I'm sure Lifetime will do something.

I hope your family goes through a horrible tragedy than have it happen again 26 years later and have a looser like you hoping you have more pain!!!!

Well, ladies and gents, it appears by the nature of the last three posts, we have a disgruntled family member in attendance in this thread.
Welcome!

Well, let's see, I'm a son and a husband. The scumbag thing is really quite subjective.

And what is your problem???

I have several. Do be more specific.

In an article I read they IDed the other guy on the boating trip that was interviewed in silhouette. Looks like they really did just throw a rock in the water

just watched this on u.s pretty nice updates. They said it was a tipster, that found him. Was it a person who had recently watched an old unsolved mysteries on spike/lifetime? I would be interested to know if any of the reruns had led to the arrest or finding of any people.

also, just to add. after all that running, he never got charged with any of the crimes that were talked about. he got charged/convicted of faking his own death..

also, this thread was really weird. what was up with the getalife poster?

Just a troll (who can't spell loser, lol). I notice he left after Apostapler called him out as an Arcieri family member who just wanted to stir up trouble and CD told him to knock it off or get the boot. :mod:

We sure do get some weird trolls in here from time to time...

yeah, this whole case was weird. Maybe there was statue of limitations on some crimes, and just not enough evidence anymore now that a-lot of witnesses are dead or can't be found. So the only thing they could charge him with is faking his own death. Which he got ten years for. Which to me seems sort of excessive. I am wondering if his past history, and why he faked his death was allowed into evidence. Probably was, it seems like they were adding on years because he wasn't found guilty before.

I also just saw this update on Lifetime. I don't remember seeing it before. I guess I'll have to start recording all the Lifetime broadcasts. I hate that they stretch to fill the picture, compared to Spike showing them in proper HD ratio.

They must have recorded some generic VO with Farina to lead into updates produced after the initial recuts of the segments.

Have there been any other updates like this, where another VO person is reading the copy instead of Farina? Similar to the Stack version that had updates read by the lady who did VO for Lifetime.

Considering some family still had contact with him over that 24 years surprised he was not caught sooner.

Well, look at Donald Eugene Webb. His wife kept him in hiding for almost 20 years and then his remains were hidden for years after that. Stories like this make it seem as though anything is possible when it comes to fugitives from the law still be "out there."
