It was about a guy that worked 2nd shift and after work got something to eat and was approached by someone that wanted a ride. During the ride the guy attacked the driver and the driver got away and somehow the attacker wound up at the driver mothers place and murdered her. I'd like to do search and read any old threads on this one, anyone know the names in the case? Thanks.

This was the Dorothy Donovan murder. The driver was Charles Holden, who gave a ride to a hitchhiker who attacked him and, in a horrible coincidence almost too unbelievable to be true, eventually wound up murdering Charles' mother in her own home. They later found out that the killer was a man named Gilbert Cannon, who was convicted of her murder. Here's an old thread from when this news originally broke:

Didn't the guy finally get caught? Or rather he came forward years later?

Cannon's DNA had been entered into a database when he served time in prison for another crime. He was a free man when they were finally able to match up the DNA from the Donovan murder scene to his, and he was finally arrested about 15 years after committing the crime.
