View Full Version : Was Doris a caricature of a real life owner

Over the last few years I have come to the conclusion that Doris, the owner of the Orlando Breakers, was a ripoff of former Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott.

Consider the following:

Doris had her own dog, while Marge had Schottzie and a few others.
Both were female owners, a rarity. (The only other one I can think of is Georgia Frontiere, who owns--or is it owned?--the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams.)
Both were very strange in their ways. (Remember that kicker Doris really liked, for whatever reason? Marge was like that with a few Reds.)
Both wanted more control than the actual coaches. (Remember the Arizona Cardinals Monday Night game when Doris put her prized kicker in the game, against Coach Fox's wishes?)

Also consider that Marge made her infamous "Hitler was good at the beginning ... but just went too far" quote to ESPN on May 5, 1996, right after the Walt Disney Company acquired both ABC (which aired Coach) and ESPN. Coincidence? You be the judge!

Oh, I got the Marge Schott connection right away.
