View Full Version : What's the best sitcom of all time?? Elodie84 05-31-2011, 06:14 AM Hi guys! I'm Elodie and I'm a newbie. What's the best sitcom of all time?? I love Friends :) and you? Regulus 05-31-2011, 06:32 AM IMHO, one Sitcom RULES above all others props: ..... :D  :rotflmao:  GET SMART! :rotflmao:  :D  Any Questions? party: William Hogan Jr 05-31-2011, 09:30 AM :) My Three Sons! Adamantium 05-31-2011, 10:42 AM In my opinion, the BEST SITCOM EVER IS... Taxi (1978-1983) 1960'sTVfan 05-31-2011, 11:43 AM I have many favorites it's hard to choose one as the best, but if I had to make a choice I would say Leave It To Beaver is overall the best. Six seasons of 39 episodes each, 234 episodes total and there isn't really a bad episode in the bunch. You can't get more consistent than that. sbeamish 05-31-2011, 11:48 AM I guess my vote would have to go to The Dick Van Dyke Show. Rezny@gmail.com 05-31-2011, 12:59 PM Many great ones but the best is AMOS N ANDY.I have most of the episodes on dvd. Marvo301 05-31-2011, 02:16 PM The best sitcom of all time is the one that set the standard that all sitcoms that came after aspire to. It is the sitcom that literally invented many of the production methods still in use today. It's name is I LOVE LUCY!!!! rjt100 05-31-2011, 03:23 PM The one and only "I Love Lucy" is the best sitcom and the best TV show of all time. It will and never will be topped. MickeyMac 05-31-2011, 06:43 PM I have many favorites it's hard to choose one as the best, but if I had to make a choice I would say Leave It To Beaver is overall the best. Mr. Television 05-31-2011, 07:24 PM I think the best sitcom is All in the Family although my personal favorite is Three's Company which I like only slightly more. 1960'sTVfan 05-31-2011, 08:22 PM The one and only "I Love Lucy" is the best sitcom and the best TV show of all time. It will and never will be topped. I've always thought that many of these well known long running sitcoms (I Love Lucy, Make Room For Daddy, Sgt. Bilko, Andy Griffith, My Three Sons, Donna Reed, Hogans Heroes, McHales Navy, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Mary Tyler Moore, Jeffersons just to name a few) are very much overrated. I honestly don't see much appeal in any of these shows I mentioned. To me, Fred and Ethel Mertz are the best part of I Love Lucy. Those two are funny. Lucy acts just plain silly most of the time, Ricky isn't funny either except when he mangles the english language. I think The Lucy Show was an improvement over I Love Lucy. mets82 05-31-2011, 08:32 PM I could see I Love Lucy being a lot of peoples favorite but I think for pure funny entertainment, I think Seinfeld has to be ranked right up there. I also think for a dark horse, how about "The Wonder Years"? dlemond 05-31-2011, 09:46 PM I Love Lucy is the best. WKRP in Cincinnati is my favorite. bencasey 06-01-2011, 12:26 AM I could see I Love Lucy being a lot of peoples favorite but I think for pure funny entertainment, I think Seinfeld has to be ranked right up there. I also think for a dark horse, how about "The Wonder Years"? Wonder Years is a great show but its not a sitcom by any means. I Love Lucy isn't my favorite but its the best. Zoneboy 06-01-2011, 12:36 AM I'd have to say The Andy Griffith Show. DSfan 06-01-2011, 02:03 AM This is a very hard question to answer. Here are some of my picks: - I Love Lucy - The Honeymooners - Cheers - Friends - Seinfeld - Frasier - Home Improvement (total dark horse I know, but this is one of the most overlooked shows as being one of the greatest sitcoms of all-time. It was never outside the top 10 in the ratings any season it was on the air, which is a pretty big accomplishment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Improvement_(TV_series) waichingliu81 06-01-2011, 11:48 AM i don't really know about best sitcom of all time, given i haven't watched every single U.S sitcom on TV and on-line. but some of my personal favourites are the jeffersons, good times, what's happening??, frasier, caroline in the city, diff'rent strokes. they may not all have great, consistent writing but they keep me entertained, interested and laughing with interesting plots, characters. LUNCH 06-01-2011, 12:09 PM I agree it is a hard question to answer. But I'll pick 2 that were already mentioned."The Andy Griffith Show",but only the black and white episodes, and "Leave it to Beaver".As mentioned "Leave it to Beaver" is maybe the only sitcom that never had a weak episode....But really there are so many great ones that were made during the 1950s through 70s. 1960'sTVfan 06-01-2011, 04:12 PM Many great ones but the best is AMOS N ANDY.I have most of the episodes on dvd. Yes, Amos n Andy is very funny also. I wouldn't put it in the category best of all time due to it's rather short run of 78 episodes, but yes it was very funny while it lasted. Same goes for The Honeymooners classic 39. Again a short run of episodes so I can't really rank it with the best of all time, but those 39 shows are very very funny. Another series that rivals Leave It To Beaver in consistency is The Flintstones. A six season show also, but just 166 episodes compared to LITB's 234. I don't think there is a truly bad Flintstones episode, of course some eps are better than others but all of them are good. Buffyboy323 06-05-2011, 02:41 PM Friends! Friends is definitely up there. Also, I think Roseanne is one of the all time greatest sitcoms. dav4463 06-05-2011, 11:56 PM Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver are 1 and 1A in my opinion. andress_jade 06-06-2011, 01:32 AM The Andy Griffith Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Golden Girls, Friends, Home Improvement, Frasier, Leave it to Beaver, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, Three's Company. burlivespipe 06-06-2011, 03:33 AM I'm drawn to 3 particularly above all others, and they've all been mentioned before: Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart and Mary Tyler Moore Show. There are many of others that cause me to smile/laugh even at the thought of them, with Beverly Hillbillies and Car 54 leading that list. And welcome aboard, fellow newbie! yankeesrj12 06-06-2011, 09:03 AM I Love Lucy has to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Personally though, I love Two and a Half Men. Any time its on CBS, FX, or local stations, I'll watch it. I've seen every episode numerous times, but I still find them hilarious. As hard as it may seem to believe, I think it is one of the best of all time. megamanj2004 06-06-2011, 11:47 AM This is kind of a tough one to pinpoint. If I had to narrow down, my choices would definitely be: Taxi - IMO there was never a moment where the writing ever stagnated too badly, even during the lone NBC season. Get Smart All in the Family - this show radically transformed the landscape of TV as we know it at the time it originally debuted. Sanford and Son I Love Lucy The Flintstones - this show paved the way for many other primetime animated series to follow, including The Simpsons (which has long since took the ball and really broke the rules even further). The Simpsons - yes the quality of the later seasons aren't as great as the earlier ones, but The Simpsons took primetime animated series to a whole different level than before. Family Ties - IMO, one of the most consistent sitcoms of the 1980s.
