I remember, I think in 2 episodes, Michael mentions The Boogens, it seems in one of them he even says it's his favorite film. Being a long time horror fan I always thought it was cool that they didn't go with a mainstream horror film, or even make up a title.

Some trivia- the actress you see in the towel is Anne-Marie Martin who would go on to co-star in the series Sledge Hammer!, and she was married to Michael Crichton, and co-wrote Twister with him.
John Crawford plays one of the head miners, he's probably most known for playing Sheriff Ep Bridges on The Waltons. The Boogens was his final feature film.
The Boogens director(James L Conway) and The Boogens star(Rebecca Balding) are married. He went on to produce Charmed, and Rebecca had a recurring role.
