...I just finished the S5 set and loved the episode where Geri decides to run the fundraiser herself and everything at Edna's Edibles is in total chaos with gigantic floral decorations and a life-size statue of Michelangelo's "David". When Mrs. G walked in and saw all of this, it was already funny, but when she gasped and took off her apron to cover David's, ahem, equipment, I totally lost it. Great comic moment by Charlotte Rae. I'm still giggling thinking about it.

Mine had to be from Season 3 and when Miko's father wanted to take her from school and he had gotten Mrs. G so fired up that when Jo volunteered to talk to the father she began hollaring at Jo. To make it even funnier, after Jo had gotten done talking to him and sorted things the two start heading back towards the kitchen just as they did Mrs. G comes bursting out the kitchen and just loses it on the father and starts hollaring at him. He then says calmly that everything has been worked out and then she pauses, smiles and tells him 'oh, i'm so glad'

Yeah, she does :) I loved her as Mrs. Garret it was a such shame when she left the show. I heard the reason that she didn't was because she didn't renew her contract with the series and that is why she never came back. However, I am glad that she got to reprise her role in The Facts of Life Reunion Movie.

Yea, i LOVE mrs. G! She is my favorite character and then Natalie after that (as you can tell by my name) but i could give a whole list of awesome, hilarious moments!!

I never heard about the contract thing, i just always heard her say it was time, the girls were all grown up and didn't really need her. I also read that she wanted the girls to carry the show on their own and were a little disappointed that they wanted another person to take over, but cloris leachman and charlotte rae were good friends, so when they asked her who they should replace her with, after she lost the "girls can run the show themselves" battle she suggested cloris. I always think of the show in a completely different way after that point, i loved FOL in those seasons but not in the same way as when charlotte was there

My favorite line in the whole series was a Mrs. G line. Blair and Jo are having a nose-to-nose cat fight and Mrs. G pushes herself between them and says "Would you girls like a bowl of Meow Mix?"

I haven't seen the seasons that Cloris Leachman was in but I have heard this very same thing many times before. That when she took over it just wasn't the same as when Charlotte Rae was on there and the show lost a lot of its appeal. As for about the contract, I can't remember where I read this it has been so long ago I wish I could though. All I remember was them stating this and saying it was the reason why they had written her out of the show. Though I am sure that is true what you said about Charlotte Rae and she was just ready to move on from the show.

That was a lesbian reference wasn't it?

Mrs. Garrett was a great concept, but Charlotte Rae has to be in the bottom 10 actresses of all time, sorry. :o

You are brainless if you think that. Both her and Cloris Leachman are at least in the top 20. :)

My favorite Edna Garrett episode is 3,2,1 when she comes into the shop to do her segment and says Hello and welcome to our ship Um... Shop. and she can't remember the next line and Tootie says and we are so welcome to have you hear and Mrs. G goes Oh thank you Tootie and Tootie says no that's your line. Then the Camera man asks her what's her best seller and Mrs. G is like Oh that's pretty hard to say and looks over at Tootie and says what do you think Natalie.

And the next time Blair and Jo turn it over to Over our heads Mrs. G isn't as nervous and she takes the mic and says you know people ask me Edna what makes your cookies so darn good, I can't tell ya but today I'm going to tell all, actually I'm going to show all. And my other favorite part is when they take a 3rd time and head back to over our heads and they all say goodbye and Mrs. G says Come home soon. If you can't tell I just love that whole episode ever one of Mrs. G lines are historical.

I love that episode, too! It might me my favorite of the whole series. Jo and Blair are pretty funny in it, too, but I especially love all the Mrs. G moments you pointed out. They're all hysterical!

Disregarding the pointless personal attack, Leachman had to be at least 100x better than Rae, but by that time the "girls" were too old and the writing was stale. FOL probably would have been better if Denise Richardson played Mrs. G.

Are you talking about Charlie Sheen's ex-wife, Denise Richards? Well yeah if the show was ever given a relaunch, she (or someone in her age demographic) probably would be playing the Mrs. Garrett role.

I mean just look at the proposed FOL spin-off. Lisa Whelchel was going to slot into the Mrs. Garrett role and she was what twenty five in 1988? Charlotte Rae was fifty three in 1979 when FOL started filming so only ten years later, audiences were already demanding younger actors as the featured performers in sitcoms.

Honestly not that I'd ever want to see this happen but if FOL was ever relaunched, I'd cast Denise Richards or someone in her age demographic in the Mrs. Garrett role. It's just makes sense given the industry today.

DarkDante-

It is my mistake, I meant Patricia Richardson:wave: -another lousy actress, or Candace Bergen:o . Those 3 are all terrible IMO.

Why does everyone try to find lesbian references? The meow mix line is just meaning that they are acting like they will break into cat fight mode... They are not lesbians...

One of my favorite Mrs. G moments was when the health inspector was set to come and inspect Edna's Edibles. Mrs. G was very stressed and kept asking the girls to perform certain jobs, but they always had an excuse. Later, Mrs. G walks into the living room to find all of the girls are just sitting around doing nothing. Annoyed, she yells: "Girls, I need your heeeelp!" LOL!

I think my favorite was when she had her eyes dilated, but Tootie thought Mrs. G. had a drinking problem in Gossip.

My favorite is where Mrs. G goes to the clothes store to return a blouse Jo stole for her birthday. The security guard that thinks she's a thief is watching her like a hawk and she misinterprets it for his flirting with her lol.

Charlotte was a very funny lady with that rubber face of hers. I thought she was given more of an opportunity to be a little nutty during the Eastland years. Edna seemed more serious once she was running a business.

I loved in the Prostitootie episode, when Jo calls and Edna is at first relieved (because she thinks Tootie is with her) and then pissed. She says, “Say Jo, let me speak to Tootie, will you?” And her eyes narrow and she has the funniest expression on her face, like the cat who is about to swallow the canary. It’s not a line that should get any laughs, on paper. But in Charlotte’s gifted hands, it’s a riot.

There are so many funny, great moments with Charlotte. Perhaps my favorite is in Season 1, "Like Mother, Like Daughter": "Quiche me once, quiche me twice, and quiche me once again!" Was there ever a line more perfect for Mrs. Garrett?
