View Full Version : "Lucy in London" DVD Release in Jeopardy
LittleRickyII 05-15-2011, 07:11 PM I am reposting this message in a new thread to make sure everyone gets the message, which may have gotten lost with the innocuous subject heading I had before. It's fine for people to want to vent here about the potential of this special not being released, but that alone will have no impact. The people making these decisions at CBS are the business folks who just look at numbers. They're not here reading our chat room messages. So if you want to see this special get released, it's extremely important to go directly do them. Here is the contact information:
CBS Home Entertainment
ATTN: Ken Ross, Exec. VP & General Manager
1700 Broadway, 33rd Floor
New York, NY 10019
I've already written my letter and will be putting it in the mail in the morning. I hope you will all do the same. And please be sure to spread this message. Remember, CBS had no intention of releasing any of The Lucy Show on DVD. It was only because of a forceful letter-writing campaign by fans that it happened at all. So our letters do make an impact. Please take a few minutes and write a letter to Mr. Ross to let him know how important it is for this special to be released. Thanks.
Hey folks, I have it on good authority that CBS is not planning to release Lucy in London on DVD. I don't know whether it has to do with the cost of music rights, fear of insufficient sales, or what, but whatever the reason, at the present time it appears we won't be seeing it. There was a letter writing campaign a few years ago that got CBS moving on releasing The Lucy Show. I was wondering if it would be possible to do something like that to light a fire under CBS and hope they will reconsider with Lucy in London. Does anyone have their contact information so we can launch an effort to hopefully change their minds?
McGillicuddy 05-18-2011, 08:00 PM I'm going to do this. What about the Facebook Page? Don't they pay attention to that?

The DVD producers out in L.A., yes. But the decision makers in NY who are only concerned with the bottom line and probably aren't fans at all, no. And they're the ones who need to hear from us. They need to know it will make good business sense to release this. If they don't hear from us, they'll assume there is no demand and will proceed with what their business instincts are now telling them to do, which is to abandon Lucy in London.
LittleRickyII 05-19-2011, 11:48 PM The site below, which was instrumental in the letter-writing campaign that got CBS interested in putting The Lucy Show on DVD has now been updated with a new campaign to get Lucy in London and Lucille Ball's Greatest Show on Earth guest shot released:

Check it out and get busy writing your letters.
LittleRickyII 05-24-2011, 12:16 AM Quick poll: Who besides me has sent a letter to urge that Lucy in London be released on DVD? Apparently time is of the essence now to change CBS's mind.

snowpeck 05-24-2011, 08:08 AM Why couldn't they release it as a special feature on The Lucy Show season 5? Especially with the episode leading up to it being included.
Robert 13 05-24-2011, 09:49 AM Does anyone know if Season 5 is currently being worked on for a release in the near future? If so, it means we have to work fast.
McGillicuddy 06-06-2011, 05:55 PM Now that season 5 has a tentative release date and Lucy in London is indeed in consideration for release one way or another, it seems even more crucial to appeal to CBS/Ken Ross. Its a good sign LIL will get a release, but he needs to know how important it is to us, hard-core Lucy fans that it be included on "The Official" season 5 release! I wrote a rough draft letter this morning.
McGillicuddy 09-13-2011, 06:15 PM After reading this thread again, I'm so happy Lucy In London is going to be on the Official Season 5, after all!!! :) :) :)
comedyfreak 09-14-2011, 04:18 AM It is being included as an extra here is the official word from tvshowsondvd:

If you wrote one of those letters, give yourself a pat on the back because I'm told that that's what pushed this over the finish line. (If you didn't, thank those who did.) It was most likely not going to happen, but finding out from fans how much this mattered and why it was particularly important for this set is what pushed it over the line. Making our voices and opinions heard through our letters makes a difference.
1960'sTVfan 09-17-2011, 02:12 AM It's great that Lucy In London will be included, but it should be on the DVD in the correct spot after the episode Lucy Goes To London. If they consider this as an extra, then chances are it will get placed out of order and end up on one of the other discs in the set.

At least it WILL be included in the set! That's the most important thing!
1960'sTVfan 09-17-2011, 02:30 AM If they do this right, Lucy In London will be the first episode on disc 2, followed by Lucy Gets A Roommate, Lucy And Carol In Palm Springs, Lucy Gets Caught Up In The Draft, and ending the disc with Lucy And John Wayne. Disc 3 should start off with Lucy And Pat Collins, disc 4 should start off with Main Street USA.
McGillicuddy 09-17-2011, 07:07 PM I kind of think it will be put on disc 4 after the last season episode, since that's what they did on season 2 with The Lucille Ball Comedy Hour special.

The Lucille Ball Comedy Hour special had no relation to The Lucy Show, so putting that one hour special as an extra on the season 2 DVD was appropriate. Lucy In London however, continues on from The Lucy Show season 5 episode Lucy Goes To London. Lucy In London aired on 10-24-66, one week after Lucy Goes To London aired. So on the DVD's, Lucy In London should be placed next after Lucy Goes To London. While it's possible Lucy In London may get placed out of order as an extra on the DVD, in this case I'm just saying it should be done the right way and placed by airdate order.
LittleRickyII 10-07-2011, 11:33 AM Get ready for a really special DVD set. As if it isn't enough that we're getting a beautifully restored "Lucy in London," there's also going to be some other wonderful bonus material related to the "Lucy in London" special. I learned this last night. As there has been no official announcement about this, I'm not going to provide further details at this time as it's not my place to steal the thunder of the folks working on this. But suffice it to say, you're all going to be very happy. :)

The cat is sort of out of the bag now so I will share this with you. The bonus material includes a brand-new documentary on Lucy in London, which includes interviews with, among others, the director of the special and one of its writers; recently discovered outtakes; and a bunch of never-before-seen photos. And, of course, the special itself is off a brand-new transfer from the original negative, so the image quality should be superb.
comedyfreak 10-27-2011, 04:29 AM Can't wait I'm going to order my copy :D
