View Full Version : Why Ashton Kutcher WON'T work....

First, Charlie Sheen appealed to the male audience. "MEN" has a sizable male audience, a great attraction to advertisers. Kutcher more than likely appeals more to women, which means the show is greatly shaking up its current viewership. Could work, but doubtful.

Regardless of Sheen's hijinks in recent months, you can't drop a lead of long-running series. Especially in the world of sitcoms, traditionally, this just doesn't work. After eight years of Sheen, it will be hard for the audience to grow to like a new lead. Kutcher seems to act more like a silly fraternity dude and his ability to carry a show on his own (he is going to be billed as the lead) has not been demonstrated.

It could pay off, but it is way too early to place any bets....

I'd give the new incarnation of Men 1 season tops.

A while back, they had a contract for 9 seasons. This to me seems like they just want to have that 9th season. If it's still successful, then they can go from there but this could just be filler to complete the 9th season they were contracted for.

I highly doubt CBS is thinking with Kutcher that the ninth season would be the end of the road. It would probably be hard to talk syndication markets into airing a sole season with a new lead. A good example of this is season 9 of Scrubs, which has still not been aired in syndication in the NYC market!
