NBC Cancels "Outsourced"

posted May 13th 2011
NBC has axed freshman Thursday night comedy "Outsourced".
While rapid-fire press releases and rumor confirmations have been the norm for getting the news out the past few days, "Outsourced" star Rizwan Manji actually took to Twitter before news of their cancellation broke:
"Before it hits the trades-Outsourced isnt coming back.Sad to see it go-hopeful that this opportunity was a step towards others! Thanx all!"
"Outsourced" was one of those shows that struggled from the start, failing to nab any real critical love and battling shaky numbers throughout its first season run.

I guess I'm one of the few who enjoyed this show.
It's a shame that Outsourced was pounded by the critics when it premiered, and I think they were a little too rough because I don't think the show deserved it.
Granted, it wasn't the greatest thing on TV, but it had it's moments.
At least the season (and now series) finale ended on an upbeat note.
I will miss it.

I liked Outsourced as well. I watched it OnDemand on Comcast and some of the episodes I watched more than once. It was a silly and fun show. I'll miss it. According to TVshowsondvd.com it will be released on DVD in September, so I will be buying it...:)

I never got to see many episodes, so I hope they put it on DVD.

Thoughts: An ensemble workplace comedy with a high-concept fish-out-of-water culture clash twist in its otherwise low-concept rom-com-leaning premise, Outsourced (https://web.archive.org/web/20140407131455/http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/topic/3195643-outsourced/?view=getnewpost) is a solidly designed show on paper, mixing comedically distinct characters with clear relational dynamics and an overarching, narratively ordained comic tension that together should create a rich, full situation from which many laughs and stories are derivable. Unfortunately, this ultimately isn’t a good sitcom in practice, failing to explore its situation and lacking in leads who have the definition or dimension necessary to support these intended constructs. Primarily, the American anchor is terribly dull, without any of the flaws or quirks necessary to yield hahas, and he’s given an overly generous portrayal that prevents the show from being able to genuinely explore a cultural divide. That is, instead of making him an awkward and offensive Michael Scott, at whom we cringe because he’s unaware of these different societal expectations (which makes sense, since he’s a fish out of water), he’s basically always correct and well-intentioned even when he’s initially ignorant.
