I agree. I actually preferred her to Mary (who of course was also very beautiful).

I agree as well. She especially looked good between 1973-76, more glamorous with a better hair style then in the early MTM days and later Rhoda days. I absolutely preferred her over Mary.:D She was the main reason I like the MTM show.

Valerie wasn't the conventional cookie cutter kind of woman. She had her own unique style.

I kinda agree with you. Mary was beautiful no doubt, but during the MTM days Valerie was a real looker. She looked much better with a couple of pounds on her.

Yep, she was definitely very attractive and far from the "frumpy" image Rhoda seemed to have of herself. Her continuing complaint that she was "fat" was ironic; she wasn't anywhere near overweight. I suppose you could say that like a lot of women she had a very negatively distorted self-image. Which of course, made her all the more vulnerable and lovable.

The final scene of the episode, where Rhoda won the beauty contest says it all. She just casually told Mary she won, kind of like she herself couldn't believe it, but when Phyllis came along, she was like "hey, I won Cookie!!", leaving Phyllis rather dumbfounded!
