Ozzfest Canceled... Again
by Gregory Burkart
May 12, 2011
This probably comes as no surprise, but it's still a bummer:
Word has come down from the Osbourne camp confirming that Ozzfest has been officially scratched off the 2011 calendar.
Ever since the economy went down the crapper, the fest has been cutting back in a big way, and they even skipped the 2009 show completely.
According to the rumor mill, chances were already looking pretty gloomy for continuing the fest this year.
Ozzy Osbourne said in a statement printed in REVOLVER magazine:
"No, not this year," referring to Ozzfest. "I just finished a lengthy arena tour of the US, so I've decided to tour Europe this summer instead."
By now it's starting to look like Ozzfest's glory days are behind them... last year's event was reduced in size to only six venues; the 2009 show was canceled altogether; and 2008's fest was scheduled for only one city.
It's a shame, because some of the world's heaviest bands have taken the stage there over the past 15 years, including:
Slayer
Danzig
Devildriver
Rob Zombie
Slipknot
Marilyn Manson
Cradle of Filth
Dimmu Borgir
Lordi
Murderdolls
and of course Powerman 5000
Maybe this is just a one-time deal and they'll be back next year... but it's kinda hard to tell at this point.
