I've learned that one-time bad boy Hugh Grant was deep into final negotiations to replace Charlie Sheen as the lead on Two And A Half Men until he pulled out last night at the last minute due to creative differences. Insiders tell me he'd been offered more than $1 million an episode, which is the sort of $25M-a-year payday Grant doesn't get from movies anymore. All along insiders at Warner Bros and CBS had been saying that they were going after "an A-lister" as the new star of the top-rated sitcom after Sheen was fired, and Hugh sure fits the bill. (Let me tell you, I would have watched that show!) CBS has been working hard to announce the return of the show and its new star at next week's upfronts. Maybe Grant will reconsider. Let's hope.

I like Hugh Grant, but this show will not work with anyone replacing Charlie Sheen.

This show was created for him and is built around his character.

Would you actually be comfortable accepting money for a role that uses women as sexual toys and then discards them as if they were used toilet tissue? HHMMMM.....??

I heard about that with Hugh Grant. It's a shame. It happened several years ago. He did time for it and moved on to a better life.

Well, I imagine if you patronize enough of them, you get to know the good, the bad and the STD.

I think Hugh Grant would have been ridiculous. He's British, for Heaven's sake.

I don't think having someone British on the show would matter. I think it would make an interesting twist to the show.

Hugh Grant was a "Two and a Half Men" Star for Two Hours and 15 Minutes:

Jon Cryer revealed in his memoir that Grant was Chuck Lorre's first choice to replace Charlie Sheen, and he had met with Grant and the show's producers.

Grant didn't seem particularly eager to do the show, according to Cryer, but Lorre texted Cryer a few days later that Grant was in, and the deal was made by 9 a.m.

At 11:15 a.m., Lorre called Cryer to tell him that Grant was now out. "The deal was done, but he changed his mind," he said.
