Hey folks, I have it on good authority that CBS is not planning to release Lucy in London on DVD. I don't know whether it has to do with the cost of music rights, fear of insufficient sales, or what, but whatever the reason, at the present time it appears we won't be seeing it. There was a letter writing campaign a few years ago that got CBS moving on releasing The Lucy Show. I was wondering if it would be possible to do something like that to light a fire under CBS and hope they will reconsider with Lucy in London. Does anyone have their contact information so we can launch an effort to hopefully change their minds?

Hey LittleRickyII, does that mean they ARE planning a release of Season 5 on dvd? And just won't be including "Lucy In London"? It's too bad because that would be a main selling point for the set. But I guess I'm glad if they are planning to release Season 5.

By the way, you can voice your comments at CBS/Paramount's Facebook page. Many fans of "Dynasty" have done this and their voices were heard as they are releasing a full-season of the show on the same day, as oppose to waiting months in between half-season sets.

If season 5 is released, Lucy In London should be included. Otherwise the season 5 DVD would be incomplete.

Lucy In London aired on 10-24-1966. It should go on the DVD prior to the episode Lucy Gets A Roommate, which aired on 10-31-1966.

I wouldn't care so much what it comes before as what it comes after. It aired a week after the October 17, 1966 broadcast of "Lucy Goes to London" episode, which was the set-up for the special.

I don't know that season 5 is definitive, though the apparently strong sales of season four should make that possible. But, for two reasons, the success of season five could be hampered if the special is not included. First, S5 is the shortest season of the series: only 22 episodes. And every single one of those episodes but one has been available on DVD in public domain releases for years. So there are likely going to be people who might pass on this season if CBS tries to sell these 22 episodes at the same price as the other seasons, when almost every one of those episodes is already available for cheap. I think they really need the "Lucy in London" special included for that reason. And incidentally, the reason the season releases got going in the first place was due to a letter writing and e-mailing campaign started by the site below (which was set up solely to generate interest in getting the series out on DVD). I've posted the contact information from that site:

I will be so disappointed if Lucy in London and/or The Lucy Show Official Season 5 do not get released. I look forward to someday having everything "Lucy" on dvd!

release of "The Lucy Show" will definitely be released by CBS/Paramount Home Video sometime this year. Most likey either October or November. CBS/Paramount would be idiots not to take advantage of the sales season five could generate. Everyone had doubts about releasing the series but every release has been successful, especially season four (one of the best seasons), which everyone thought would sink without Vivian Vance. Trust me, the 22 episodes have already been remastered and we will see season five in the fall. However, I do believe sales would be even greated if CBS included "Lucy In London." I could understand their hesitation because of music royalties. I think CBS/Paramount should be bold enough to include the special and take a chance just like they did with seasons one through four. They are laughing all the way to the bank. We will probably see season six sometime in early 2012 (March or April).

Even with all the public domain episodes, these will look nothing like those shotty releases. Seeing them remastered will make them new again. I can't wait to get them all.

They seriously need to re-consider and include "Lucy In London". This series is on a successful run on dvd. Not including it would kill the completion.

Before or after, it's all the same thing. Lucy Goes To London aired on 10-17-66. Lucy Gets A Roommate aired on 10-31-66. Lucy In London aired on 10-24-66 and should go on the DVD in between Lucy Goes To London and Lucy Gets A Roommate. If they decide to include Lucy In London on the DVD, I hope they don't include it as a separate bonus feature. Doing it that way would result in the airdate order being messed up.

But, from what I understand, its not considered a regular episode of The Lucy Show, but more of a "special". Wheather its a separate bonus feature or included in the rotation of the episodes, I don't care, as long as its part of the release. Please! Please! CBS, don't let us down!!

Since Lucy In London follows up from the previous weeks episode, airdate order is the right way to do it. But it's all a moot point if Lucy In London won't be included on the S5 DVD. Hopefully they will include it using the original airdate order. We'll see.
