Throughout the whole series, Max refered to Barabara's character as 99. Did anyone ever find out what 99's real name was? Someone once suggested to me that it was Susan and as much as I researched it, I never found out for sure. I am thinking that the writers never gve her a name other than 99, like on Gilligans Island. Gilligan never had a first name.

Agent 99 was called Susan in one episode but that was most likely her cover name for that particular case and not her real name. Her real name was never revealed in the series.

no, it never was. In the episode where she said it's Susan, at the end there's a scene where Max calls her that and she says "Max, that's not my name"!

She never had one and it was also said that "99" never was meant to have a real name. :)

I heard they were going to call her "69" but the censors wouldn't allow it.

On the DVD commentary for season three of Get Smart, Creator Buck Henry and Barbara Feldon explained that Agent 99's name was intentionally never revealed . As far as I can remember, on the episode where Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 got married, the Chief performed the ceremony, and he still called her "Agent 99" .

Actually, Gilligan did have a first name, they just never used it. It was on the script though.

IIRC; during the ceremony when the preacher gets to the point where you would normally here her name, they cut to Admiral Hargrade sleeping and snoring on the floor.

At the end of "99 Loses Control," she says, "It's 99, Max, Susan's not my real name."

In any other series, that would be taken to mean she was either on assignment all along, or, at the very least, only pretending to have left CONTROL for good. On the other hand, her exact words wouldn't rule out Hilton being her real LAST name!
