View Full Version : The Funniest Episode
The Flying Dutchmans 05-06-2011, 09:07 PM I know everyone has their own opinion on what funny is, but I have to say that to me, the most funny episode of Gilligans Island had to be Forward March. The way they interacted with that Gorilla was so gut breaking laugh out loud funny that I have to give it a 10 on the scale. I know that the Gorilla was just an actor in a suit, but for comedy. I think it worked very well.
That is a toughie. There are, for me at least, many many individual moments that have me laughing out loud but an episode with a sustained laugh count throughout would , again for me, be "Pass the Vegetables, Please".

This is tough for me too. For example, on first viewing I didn't like Pass The Vegetables Please, but now I love it, with that whole sidesplitting scene between Gilligan and the Skipper. "The same way you can see the boat!"
I also love the slapstick hammock routine from Home Sweet Hut, the way Gilligan tries to get attention in Agonized Labor ("I fall down a lot!") and I love Gilligan's abuse of the law (while accusing everyone else of abusing the law) in Gilligan Goes Gung Ho, plus the scene where Skipper tells him "you're the saddest looking deputy I ever saw" and Gilligan starts giggling while pulling the whistle out from round his neck and then starts blowing it loudly because the Skipper's on his foot.
So I really can't pick just one episode. They're all great.
littlesoprano 05-10-2011, 01:38 AM Let me put it this way: there are only a select number of onscreen moments which have made me literally ROTFL. I mean, falling off the sofa, laughing so hard I nearly got sick. They are:
1. Sir Derek Jacobi's hilariously horrible Hamlet death scene on Frasier
2. The catfight scene in Mystery Science Theatre 3000: Manos, Hands of Fate
3. The 1-hr photo shoot in Birdemic
4. The "technical difficulties" in Gilligan's Island - Castaway Pictures Presents! Hands-down favorite episode, and the one I find funniest.
callensensei 06-25-2011, 09:29 PM The "technical difficulties" in Gilligan's Island - Castaway Pictures Presents! Hands-down favorite episode, and the one I find funniest.
That would be my vote too, as well as the switched-castaways in "The Friendly Physician."
The Flying Dutchmans 06-25-2011, 10:02 PM I also have to agree on "Technical Difficultie" That was a very funny episode, especially when Mr Howel kept yelling at Ginger for doing her lines without Howel saying action first. Being the pro that Ginger is, you'd think she would be lsitening for the words Action.
(Professor to Ginger) Kissing on the mouth is far from sanitary. It could lead to all kinds of bacterial transfer. lol
For the oppertunity to kiss Ginger, I would have been glad to take the chance.
Teebs 06-26-2011, 06:32 PM Haha! Yes, I forgot about Castaways Pictures Presents, I'm with everyone here. From Mr. Howell prancing around with his megaphone asking the birds to be quiet, to Gilligan done up from head to toe in headhunter body paint. And Gilligan working the projector with pedal power.
Skipper: "Whose ear is that?"
Professor: "I think it's mine."
Mr. Howell: "What's that horrible thing?"
Gilligan: "Ginger's mouth."
Ginger (in disgust): "OH!"
littlesoprano 06-26-2011, 07:40 PM The fact that it is a silent film makes Mr. Howell's yelling at the birds all the funnier. :)
Another favorite moment is the reaction to the kissing scene at the premiere. Check out Mary Ann's awed look vs. Ginger's cat-that-ate-the-canary-and-is-still-chewing smile, Mr. Howell's "it's for adults" and the Professor's uncomfortable double-take. And the line about gasoline siphoning.... !

LOL! I need to watch this episode again. You're reminding me how funny it really is!
Howell: Where did you learn to hold your breath like that?
Professor: I used to be a scuba diver.
Howell: Are you sure it wasn't from siphoning gas during the war?
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!
"Actors! Nothing but temperamental children!"
JWood201 06-26-2011, 11:45 PM You know, I always thought Castaways Pictures Presents was insane, but the older I get the more I appreciate it. It's very well done and very funny. (Although I can't get over how they tried to be "artsy" instead of just making a very straightforward 'hey, we're shipwrecked' film - hilarious).
Between Howell yelling at the birds and everyone's differing reactions during the kissing scene (Ginger, Howell, and Mary Ann have the best) and Ginger's look into the camera when Proffy sticks his hand out for a shake, there's one great moment after another.
It's not my absolute favorite, but it's a good one.
"Menace me, Gilligan!"
Teebs 06-27-2011, 07:53 AM "Menace me, Gilligan!"
Gilligan: "Boo!"
Howell: "BOO??"
Jim Backus must have been adlibbing like crazy in this ep. He was made for this kind of thing!
Howell and Gilligan staring at The Kiss between Ginger and the Professor, with Gilligan even coming out from behind the camera to get a good look.
The long shot from across the lagoon that almost looks like some off-camera footage where Gilligan/Bob is in the wetsuit walking past the girls, Mary Ann's on the bamboo bike and she gives him a good look as he goes past.
Shirtless Gilligan banging the gong J. Arthur Rank style.
Mrs. Howell going on about Princess Grace.
Everyone crowding in for attention while poor Skipper tries to draw the island on the blackboard.
Do they really want to be rescued???
callensensei 06-27-2011, 10:36 PM That incredible kiss on the table, hands clutching each others' hair and all...and Mr. Howell saying, "No germ could live through that kiss!"
And let's not forget Gerald Fried's wonderful music. That jaunty little piano tune that mimics the old-fashioned musical accompanyment of silent films makes the whole thing just so much funnier.
Yooch 06-27-2011, 11:03 PM I don't know about a favorite episode, but the one that sticks out in my mind is when the surfer rode in on a tidal wave, conked his head on a rock and had amnesia. I don't remember the plot of it that much, other than that.

Big Man On A Little Stick. The girls are all over Duke Williams. Until he starts chasing them. Then they have to use the Professor and Gilligan as decoys, feigning romances with them to fend off Duke's advances.
Don't get JWood201 started on that one! :D

Hahaha, this is my favorite episode! Duke's a riot! Plus my mother likes to comment on his rear, which is just as funny.
It's full of awesome lines (smorgasbroad time, lucky Pierre, pizza sharkskin) and epic moments (Gilligan buzzing, Howells thinking he's a royal Duke, Gilligan getting all jealous and working out). I love it!!
Pffft, come on, Teebs. Who's feigning??

"He likes my latimus dorsii"
"You even have skinny lips!"
Professor makes some sleazy comment about having a very high IQ
And OMG, Lucky Pierre.
Oh, Sherwood!
Pffft, come on, Teebs. Who's feigning??
That's true- I forgot it was first season GI. No-one feigned anything, that's how they got in trouble with the censors! Tree licking and back scratching and sap spurting, oh my
Yooch 06-29-2011, 10:35 PM Thanks for refreshing me on the details; all those funny scenes are coming back!:)
