The show, "Braxton Family Values", has really taken everyone over by storm.
I'm excited, but I have to be honest that this was something that I was very reluctant to do myself. I said that I didn't want to do a reality show.
What made you change your mind?
One of the main things was when I filed for bankruptcy, my sisters told me that 'You have to tell your story'. Everyone is telling your story that don't know what happened.
So I thought to use this as a platform to describe everything that's gone on.
You kind of make a reference to it as that it's not the way you want to maintain headlines.
I wondered if that was an overall statement about where you are in terms of your career right now.
No, but I guess maybe a little bit. Today all people see is 'Tony Braxton's bankrupt... again', but I talk about the second bankruptcy vs. the first bankruptcy. What a lot of people don't know is that the first bankruptcy was that my royalty statements were less than $2,000. I couldn't talk about it because there was a huge gag order.
So here I am again and people don't know that I file for bankrupty again. They think that because of my illness that I've spent all of my money, but filing bankruptcy was a protection. When I got sick and canceled my Vegas show I had to cover myself so that all of those vendors wouldn't come after me.
You said that you made just $2,000 from 'Un-break My Heart'?
That whole 'Secrets' album I only made $1,972. That's a true story.
In the show I get to talk about it and people go 'Wow, I didn't know that'.
