I guess the price of mailing packages has gone up again? As far as I know first class stamps are still 44 cents.

There was a lady yesterday at the post office who was a few people in front of me. At the counter she was arguing with the clerk over the price. She told the clerk that "they should display a sign saying that the price has gone up by seventeen cents." She wanted to see a manger. There was only one clerk working the counter and a long line of people

Not knowing what the woman was shipping nor the weight of the item, it would be difficult to speculate the reason for her argument. I'm not aware of any recent postal rate increases and if i'm not mistaken, the USPS is required to announce any rate increases in advance. It also seems like a waste of time to argue over something as measly as 17 cents but if she felt that strongly about it then she should've asked to speak with a supervisor and let the clerk and the customers standing in line conduct their business.

The new rates were approved earlier this year and went in effect April 17. I know the postcard rates changed along with items weighing more than one ounce - some other things also changed I believe. It didn't get much attention because a regular stamp still costs 44 cents. At work we had something returned to us because it was short 3 cents. It turned out to be good because we had no clue the rates changed. I remember thinking at that time that they had better not return my tax forms because I know I didn't have enough postage on them. Thankfully they didn't return them.
