Actor Johnny Brown was the original choice to play Lamont Sanford on "Sanford And Son", but he was legally committed to "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In."

If he had played Lamont then he wouldn't have been available to play Nathan Bookman on Good Times!! Besides I can't imagine anyone other that Demond Wilson as Lamont!

I agree, I think the show was cast perfectly -- especially the main characters; Fred (of course!), Lamont and Aunt Esther.
Lamont could be tempermental with his father, but he also had a soft, kind side to him. He showed that Fred did a pretty good job bringing him up and he had good values. Demond played the role perfectly and he and Redd had a chemisty both on and off the show. One of the great duos in showbiz, in my opinion.

Or, we would've heard Fred say, "Lamont, you're so fat that when you lie around the house, you LIE AROUND THE HOUSE!"

Really? I had heard that Cleavon Little was the original choice for Lamont.

Barnard Hughes and Paul Sorvino were supposedley the original choices for Fred and Lamont before the producers decided to cast black actors in the roles.
