While shopping at Ralphs yesterday I saw a small display of Coca-Cola bottled in Mexico.

At first I was wondering how it was different from Coke bottled in the U.S., then I realized that it must be the sweetener.

Sure enough, "sugar" was listed in the ingredients and not High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).

I did some research and learned that Coke bottled in Mexico and Canada contains sugar. I also read that the soft drink tastes better with sugar and when there is no HFCS added.

I will open the bottle I bought later today and compare with the vanilla Coke I usually buy. Should be interesting. Here are two photos of the bottle...

I love Mexican Coke. Can't wait to read your thoughts. I think it tastes better, and is easier to digest with sugar.

You should also try Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback. They both also contain sugar instead of HFCS.

Okay, I tried it just a little while ago.

I do like it better than the current (U.S.) Coke with HFCS.

I have been buying vanilla Cola and I've been adding 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract. I think I still like that "recipe" best. So I will probably stay with that but occasionally buy the Mexico Coke for variety.

I've never tried "Mexican Cola" but it must be the same as the Kosher version, as they both contain sugar instead of HFCS.

I remember years ago that I much preferred drinking from a bottle than from a can.

I am going to save the bottle. It's already dated (expires Nov. 2011). I also have an unopened 6-pack of Coke from 1985... one of the last ones before "New Coke" replaced it for a while.

There used to be an "Old Fashioned Root Beer Co." the next town over. It was great. They had hundreds of different types of root beer, including some of their own homebrew recipies. They also had just about any type of soda you could think of in glass bottles. It's where I was introduced to Mexican Coke.

Yes, it's actually easy to find root beer in bottles at the stores in my area.

Dorothy Lane Market (an upscale grocer here in Dayton; they have locations in Oakwood, Washington Township, and Springboro) had that available a couple of years ago when I went. I had some since I prefer it with sugar and not substitutes dictated by "Big Government." (Let's not turn this into a political thread, please!)
