Which visitor to the island do you think was the most hated? My pick is season 3 the Hunter. Jonathon Kincaid. played by Rory Calhoun. I felt so sorry for Gilligan when this inhuman monster was hunting him for sport. I mean the Headhunters that visited the island were hated too, but, they were raised to be what they are. Kincaid knew better. I don't think even the Mad Doctor that took the castaways to his island to switch their minds was as cold as Kincaid. So I would say Kincaid is my #1 pick for most hated visitor to the island. But it was good to hear that radio broadcast that Kincaid didn't get away with it.

That was definitely one of the darker GI episodes, nice variation of The Most Dangerous Game.

I think everyone will agree with you on Kincaid being the most evil, hated visitor. No other GI villain even comes close.

The Hunter episode is a bizarre mix of ruthless cruelty and silly comedy which fell flat considering this guy was out to kill Gilligan. (What on earth would kids watching this have thought? Gilligan's Island is where you're supposed to feel safe!) Gilligan is shown to be terrified at one point. He shows real guts by waiting in the water tank to pull Kincaid in, but when the others have the perfect chance to grab Kincaid as he surfaces, they let him get away. I hope that's not because they were willing to let Gilligan go the whole 24 hours just so they could get off the island!

Even Ginger's scene where she attempts to vamp Kincaid is disturbing, because he totally turns the tables on her, and she becomes quite nervous and unsettled.

Altogether a very twisted episode.

I agree with you teebs. But it probably wouldn't have been much of a different feeling then what kids felt watching the lone ranger, or even Batman except, GI as you said is a safe place and kids were not used to that kind of cruelty on GI.

As far as the 24 hour thing in hopes that Kincaid would keep his promise? As smart as a man as the Professor was, he should have relaized that Kincaid couldn't get them help after hunting Gilligan. As Kincaid said he would end up in jail for it. Kincaid did however have a nervous breakdown. So I guess in a way he did end up in his own personal jail for hunting Gilligan.

When Gilligan pulled Kincaid into the water barrel the Skipper and the Professor should have been right in there to grab the gun off Kincaid as he surfaced. That was his only weapon and they could have destroyed it but instead they let him go! It did seem to me like they were hoping Gilligan would last the 24 hours and then they'd get to go home. But of course, as you point out, Kincaid had no intentions of getting them home as he would have been arrested for what he did, and I don't believe the castaways would have kept it a secret. After all, he almost murdered Gilligan in cold blood. What decent law-abiding person wouldn't go straight to the police?

And if Kincaid had succeeded in killing Gilligan, he'd then have six witnesses. He'd probably start shooting them too. They had no hope of being rescued by him.

Wow! What a chilling thought, that the Professor and the Skipper were still buying into the "game"! I must admit I never thought that they were. I thought they were either too wary or too stupid to grab Kincaid - perhaps they thought his gun would start working the next moment. But mostly I think it was just poor writing from that point onwards. That was the moment where the episode started its abrupt slide into lame comedy, and as you say, Teebs, the mix just doesn't work.

The ruthless cruelty of this episode is convincing, though, because Rory Calhoun as Jonathan Kincaid is just brilliant. He is smooth, chilling, relentless and horribly compelling.

Now a visitor that I can't stand because of poor acting is Erika Tiffany Smith. I honestly do not understand how the Gabor sisters parlayed a thick Hungarian accent into an acting career. I find Erika's presence on the island terribly jarring because all I can think is, "There's Zsa Zsa Gabor playing herself." There's no character, and it ruins the illusion.

Then there's the improbability of the writing of her character. The idea of Erika exploring the island alone on her wobbly high heels and thinking herself perfectly safe makes it seem as though our remote island is right in the middle of the shipping lanes. And her excuse for not getting the castaways rescued is the flimsiest of them all. She did tell the authorities about her sojourn on the island, but the silly broad never seemed to realize that the castaways were stranded!

YES!! "The Hunter", currently a topic in and of itself, is the darkest...! Therefore Johnathan Kincaid takes the cake.

But the one thing about the Hunter episode I can say is, Rory Calhoun was one terriffic actor. I mean he played the part so well. There were many guest starr on GI but I think Rory outshined them all, I mean for his acting.

Hands down, Jonathan Kincaid was the worst, and that episode really gives me chills as an adult. As far as characters who are just irritating, Strother Martin as Mr Barkley really got on my nerves.

Without a douibt,Jonathan Kincaid(Rory Calhoun)-he was just plain CRUEL-smooth,suave,rutlhless and CRUEL.Another one was that mad scientist(Vito Scotti)who turned the castaways into robots. He wasn't nice at ALL.

I agree about Vito Scotti, but the character was kind of funny too. The same with Don Rickles as Wiley. Barkley was just plain irritating.

Kincaid...not because he was poorly portrayed, but because he came off as really menacing.

Exactly!! But I love the poses that Rory Calhoun did in those closes up with the music playing..

My honest opinion? Every single one of them. They were all completely pointless. Although maligned by the critics at the time of it's originally airing (and occasionally even to this day), this was a good show. The exceptions being every single time they had a "guest star." It was always completely proposterous that they would get there, and then, somehow, not only would they get off by episode's end, but they would not take a single castaway with them! It got stale very very fast. Kincaid was probably the worst of the bunch but they were allextremely[/U] poorly written. There must have been a million examples of the castaways being able to get off the island in each "guest star" episode.

Sorry to disagree, but I think the worst visitors were the mosquitoes. I can't stand those guys.

They left the cast aways stranded high and dry because they were jealous of the girls.

At least Kincaid had a good reason. He didn't want to go to jail for hunting humans.

The second worst would be that absent-minded butterfly collector. He just left them there drunk knowing how desperately they wanted to leave the island and had no way to get off.

While on the subject. I notice nobody talks about the headhunter that wanted to cut some heads off while Skipper was trying to make Gilligan into a hero. That's a pretty gruesome affair along the lines of what Kincaid was trying to do.

I'm kind of surprised that nobody has mentioned Eva Grubb. After Ginger gave her a makeover, she repaid her by knocking her out and tying her up in hopes of passing herself off as Ginger and leaving the island with the others. What a witch!!!

You're so right. Eva Grubb is definitely way up there as far as hated visitor of Gilligan's Island.

Hard to decide now, for me top spot is split between The Mosquitoes and Eva Grubb.

At least we can take consolation that Eva probably drowned at sea. When they got back to civilization in the TV movie, no mention was made of Ginger coming back earlier. Everyone was surprised to see her.

While we're on the subject of the Evil Twin characters, there was also Mr. Howell's double who wanted to swindle his way through the Howells' millions, and Gilligan's double, the Russian spy who clonked Gilligan over the head with a rock and tied him up, and was meant to 'Phase 4' them all before he left.

I wish they had also had an Evil Mary Ann episode. That would have been something else. Maybe she'd have tried to kill them with poisoned coconut creme pies. :D

What a great idea! Evil Mary Ann and her servant Gilligan. Oh, the havoc they'd cause in between evil butterfly hunting and evil laundry basket carrying. mwa ha ha ha haaaaa

Hahaha, sounds simply dastardly. Evil laundry basket carrying could get pretty dangerous...

Think about it - Evil MA could get him to do anything she wanted. o.O

I agree that he was the absolute worst! However; I always liked how every Castaway risked their own lives to help Gilligan surivive [even Mrs. Howell] and, despite all the disasters Gilligan had put them through, their love for him motivated them to do noble acts against such a monstrous being!
