Hey guys,

Here's something for you to debate on:

Now, over 30 years ago we were introduced to a song called Funkytown

Now Funkytown was written about Minneapolis, MN

and there were 2 acts that hit the American Top 40 Pop Chart and both of them were One Hit Wonders

Now the 1st version was performed by a duo called Lipps, Inc. and the song became a #1 Hit in 1980 lasting 4 consecutive weeks @ #1 on the Pop Chart and 2 consecutive weeks on the Dance Chart and the song was also #1 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and The Netherlands.

It also reached No. 2 in the UK, Sweden and on the American R&B/Soul Chart

and the 2nd version was performed by an Australian Rock Band called Pseudo Echo and the song became a Top 10 Hit on the Pop Chart peaking @ #6 back in 1987 and like Lipps, Inc., their song also became their only American Top 40 Hit on the Pop Chart and their version also became a #1 Hit in their home country of Australia

and so, which version do you like better?

Lipps, Inc. or Pseudo Echo?

That's the Question!

Please debate on this.

and now, here are the songs:

I'm partial to Pseudo Echo since they did the song "His Eyes" for Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning.

I have to go with Lipps, Inc. I almost always seem to gravitate to the originals.

WOW Pseudo Echo did a great job and hard to choose but I vote for the original by a hair on this one, this one was a photo finish.

Oh lord, that brings me back.

When that song was big on the charts (and the video was on MTV constantly)in '87 we teased a friend of mine mercilessly because he bore a striking resemblance to the lead singer of Pseudo Echo.

Ah. That was a good summer.

Pseudo Echo were originally New Romantics, and I prefer them that way... Their debut album, Autumnal Park, is one of my top ten favourite albums... I don't mind their later rock sound/look, when they recorded Funkytown, but I absolutely love their earlier New Romantic sound/look... My favourite song on Autumnal Park - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8i9ZB8r2fE
