Hi everyone. I'm new here and I just thought about starting up this topic about some of the more, shall we say, interesting cases that stand out to me from Unsolved Mysteries.
The real mystery in all of these cases is whether or a crime was committed against the victim(s)! Some of these cases I look at and think "Oh yeah, a crime too place here" and others have me go "This person is faking it" and others have me so baffled, I don't know what to think.
The first one is the Wackers case, which to my understanding, is a pretty well talked about case in these parts. This one dealt with an elderly couple that was claming to be harassed constantly for years by an unknown antagonist(s). Mrs. Wacker was attacked twice, there were several incidents of vandalism, & they even stole the Wackers gun & returned it a few days later. That last part right there makes me question the validity of the whole thing. Who the hell steals a gun & then returns it to the person they stole it from? Is this just an old couple getting their kicks from a lot of attention? And it was also one of those strange cases where the police could find ZERO evidence that would lead to a suspect. However, the attacks on Mrs. Wackers sounded pretty vicious. Would they really do all that to themselves just for attention? I don't know.
My theory is that alot of what was going on was staged by The Wackers themselves and the attacks (at least the first one inside the house) was an isolated incident that had nothing to whatever was going. Part of me also thinks that if this was real, then its probably just a bunch of kids picking on an old couple they view as neighborhood grumps. Who knows? Whatever the case, I tend to lean more towards No Foul Play on at least a majority of this case.
The disappearance of Charlotte Pollis. This one is actually pretty basic. A wife gets sick, her husband takes the kids out for a day. They come back to find Charlotte has disappeared. Whenever something like this happens, the husband is going to be the chief suspect, and sure enough, Paul was.
A spot of blood was found (source undetermined) was found in the trunk of his car. His alibi of going out with the kids has been contradicted by a few people. And to be honest, some of Paul's behavior was very bizarre. He had his parents help him completely clean the house from top to bottom. He agreed to take a polygraph test, but then didn't show up and disappeared for 3 months. He left a note saying "I love my wife & would never do anything to hurt her intentionally" (key word is intentionally). That sounds like the act of a guilty man.
It was suggested in the segment by Charlotte's mother that Paul got mad at her, took it too far, & ended up doing something terrible that he may not have intended. That's what I think happened. And I know this isn't proof of anything, but just watching the segment again makes me think "Wow, he looks guilty" like he feels bad about what he did. So totally, I think there was Foul Play her and it was through Paul's doing.
Now this one is probably a bad one to list in here because I think pretty much EVERYONE will agree that Foul Play took place here. Its just a matter of what happened & who did it: The disappearances of Wendy Camp, Cynthia Britto, & Lisa Kregear. I know this one has been heavily talked about on these forums as well. Basically, if you don't know the story, Wendy Camp, a women with MS, was involved in a bitter custody dispute with her Ex-Husband Chad Noe over their son. One day, he calls her up and changes his mind on letting her visit their son and she brings along her sister-in-law (from her 2nd marriage) & her young daughter. By all accounts, the visit took place. Chad's mother picked up Wendy, Cynthia, & Lisa, according to her, they got into a fight, and she dropped them off at a Wall Mart. The three have not been seen since and last I checked, their bodies were never found. Obviously, Chad & his family are the prime suspects here. Did they have anything to do with it?
My answer? HELL YES!!! In all the episodes of UM that I watched, I don't think there was one more painfully obvious than this one. Its funny that Chad even admitted on UM to admitting while he was drunk that he killed them. Him and his family are the last ones to see them alive, and Bevs story about dropping them off at a Wall Mart could not be proven at all & by the sound of it, not even possible. Its amazing. Their story makes no sense, Chad admitted to doing it, and yet they still haven't been able to find enough evidence to charge them. Seriously, the fact that they were last seen by them should warrant a search of the house, shouldn't it? I mean these people are STUPID and yet they got away with murder. Unbelievable.
Now like I said, I don't think anybody believes that the three of them just disappeared off the face of the Earth. SOMETHING happened to them. The question is what? Well, anybody who has researched even a little bit about this case could probably tell you "Chad did it!". Foul Play all the way on this one and Chad is going to burn in hell for this.
The next one is Sarah Powell. This is the one about a teenage girl who stayed home from school sick and while her parents were gone, the house was broken into by unknown people (2 guys & 2 girls) who stole nothing, tied up Sarah, hit her in the head once or twice, & then left. Sarah had amnesia as a result of the event and could not recall anything about her life, much less the home invasion. She would only get her memory back after several seizures she would experience.
Now this one...oh boy this one...she's making it up. Has to be fake. There are just so many parts about this that don't make any kind of real sense. So she loses her memory: forgets her name, how to brush her teeth, but she is aware of the redial function on a telephone. These robbers break in, yet there are absolutely no signs of their presence there on a rainy day (forget the fact that this break in happened during the day). And the whole story was just loaded with things that sounded like it would make a good story rather than a realistic one. Like one of the robbers (well they didn't rob anything, so I can't call them that, can I) feeling sorry for her. I also find it highly questionable that she remembers the story as she goes, regaining more of her memory of that specific event with each seizure. Again, sounds good in a story, but I can't think of too many real situations where a seizure will do that.
I think she planned the whole thing as a cry for attention. Teenage girls do some WACKY things to get attention, and she took it a wee bit too far I think. Trust me, my sister is crazy too. She never did anything quite like this to get attention, but she was pretty bad. Maybe Sarah's seizures are legit. Those are hard to fake and maybe she has a condition. But too much of this story seems far fetched to me. I would like to know about Sarah. Did she get into a fight with her parents not long before this? How is she doing now? I think those would be indicators of this just being one gigantic performance on her part.
Some have speculated that it was people from her school getting back at her for something, but if that was the case, they would have had to plan this whole thing out, and Sarah being sick from school is something they would have had to count on. Also, if it was somebody from her school who somehow planned this, you'd think they would have been found out, don't you? But I'm going to definitely say No Foul Play on this one.
And finally, the Cindy James case. This is one that has just baffled me to no end. Was she stalked, tormented, and eventually murdered? Or was she a victim of multiple personality disorder & ultimately killed herself.
All the other cases here are missing vital evidence to solve it, but I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what happened in all of those cases, even if it can't be proven. This one? I have NO idea. Really, this one has me floored. Watching just the UM segment, there are times where I think "Oh she did that herself" (the fire in the basement was probably the most obvious). And police never found any evidence that she was being stalked outside of what she presented. Her Ex-husband was obviously suspected, but they never found any evidence to link it to him. She was also psychologically troubled & spent time in a clinic, so she was clearly having mental problems. But then again, whenever she was attacked, it pretty brutal, one instance involving a knife being stabbed through her hand. And even though I pointed out that it seems like she started the fire, her friends that were with her that night saw someone fleeing the scene.
There was this creepy voice message played on a news clip (I'm surprised UM didn't use it actually). In a raspy voice, it said "Cindy Dead Meat Soooooooon". To be honest, I thought it sounded like a woman doing the scary voice. But even if it was a woman, was it Cindy? I have no idea.
But then again, the circumstances of her death were over the top. How can a person ingest/inject morphine (which to be fair, she could easily get a hold of being a nurse), then walk a mile & a half away from her car (If she did it, she couldn't have taken the morphine at the scene since there was no evidence to suggest that), and then hogtie herself, and then lay down to die. That scene just sounds impossible to have been suicide. If she planned this, I'm convinced that there is no way she could have done it all herself. But who the hell would help her pull off something like that? Her private investigator? Maybe, but what does he have to gain out of that? To prove his client right?
Was the harassment real & was Cindy murdered. In my head I keep going back & forth on this. It is one of the strangest cases ever covered on UM. I've even thought about the possibility that BOTH scenarios might be true to some degree. MAYBE, the harassment was all in her mind, she was having Multiple Personality Disorder and did it herself, but then somebody murdered her knowing that the police would think she killed herself. Or MAYBE, the harassment was all true, but very few believed her, she concocted the whole death herself as a way to get it over with. Or MAYBE the harassments started out true, but she got so desperate to get people to believe her that she started doing things herself to keep attention on her investigation.
I really don't know what to say about Cindy James. This one is a mystery where I really have no strong feeling on a conclusion as to what happened.
