At the end of last week's episode of CBS' The Good Wife, which culminated with Peter Florrick's victory in the District Attorney election, DCC chairman Frank Landau revealed that he’s already plotting Peter’s campaign for Senate, and that Florrick's trusted strategist Eli Gold will be running that, too. Well, that could now become a reality because, after several weeks of negotiations, Alan Cumming, who plays Gold on the show, has signed a deal to continue as a regular for three more seasons. The Good Wife is yet to be renewed for Season 3 but, given the acclaim for the show, that is considered a done deal.

Wow, I sure hope this story is true.

On the heels of a story on Deadline that Alan Cumming (Eli Gold) has signed on as a regular on The Good Wife with a three year deal, I’ve gotten a few questions about whether that means The Good Wife has already been renewed. No, as the Deadline story notes, it doesn’t mean that.

But one source (who has been very reliable in the past) tells me that the studio is in the process of wrapping multi-year commitments with all of the series regular actors and that CBS is planning a 2 year renewal commitment.

If so, that jibes with CBS’s plans to use the 10pm hour as a place to shepherd marginally-rated shows to syndication, though we’re still not clear on just how lucrative The Good Wife’s syndication prospects are. Freshman Hawaii Five-0 already has an off network syndication deal (beginning in 2014 on TNT), but so far no syndication deals have been announced for The Good Wife.

I love him as Eli and I'm glad he's still on the show. He's a great addition!
