View Full Version : Freddie Prinze Story/ Freddie on the Bob Newhart Show (???)
scott cokeley 01-03-2002, 02:31 AM Recently, I re-read my old book "The Freddie Prinze Story", and it mentions Freddie appearing in an episode of The Bob Newhart Show. Is this true? I read an episode listing and couldn`t find anything on Freddie appearing in the show......any clues?
Anna 3 01-03-2002, 02:03 PM WOW! I never heard that before. I`ve seen all the Bob Newhart shows and don`t remember seeing Freddie, but theres always that chance I may have missed it. Thats worth looking into.:eek2:
tylersmistress2002 01-03-2002, 05:08 PM You are absolutely rite! It is listed in The Freddie Prinze Story, but I am not sure if he ever made it....I don't remember. I'll have to look it up. He was scheduled to do it tho. I remember reading it and thinking "I never saw that and I ALWAYS watched that show" It may have been toward the end...I understand he cancelled a few appearances and wasn't performing at his best.
Cheryl Harrell 01-03-2002, 09:04 PM Is this the ont with Suzanne Pleshette? If so I use to watch that one in the 70's & don't recall him being on there. Re-runs of it used to be on TVLAND but they took them off. He would've been great in that! :)
tylersmistress2002 01-04-2002, 09:56 AM Yes, that was THe Bob Newhart Show.....he also did at least one other sitcom I remember but I cant recall the name of it. Suzzane was in that also, and they played the owners of an Inn in Vermont I believe but that was I think in the late 80s.
flannelpjs 01-04-2002, 02:49 PM I think some of you are confused, the Bob Newhart show the book refers to is not the sitcom show he did, but the variety show he had at the time.. It was also called the Bob Newhart show. That is the show Freddie did, along with the Tony Orlando show etc, Variety shows were very popular at that time. Just thought you all would like to know!!
Anna 3 01-04-2002, 03:01 PM I didn`t know Bob had a variety show as well. It must have been short lived, I sure don`t remember that one. A friend of mine said Freddie did Red Skeltons show,I don`t recall that either. If you guys could find out that would be great. I know Red liked Freddie so maybe he did do his show. I really don`t know for sure.:typing:
tylersmistress2002 01-04-2002, 04:41 PM i dont recall that but thanks for setting us straight....i do remember the tony orlando show
Cheryl Harrell 01-04-2002, 06:57 PM Wow, I didn't realize Newhart had a variety show. I'd read that Freddie was on some of the variety shows of the day. I'd love to see some of those! :)
MariposaLKB 01-04-2002, 07:12 PM Maybe Freddie got to use his great singing and dancing talent more than we thought! I sure hope so!
Pitooey 01-04-2002, 07:31 PM As you can see Freddie was very, very busy. Flannel PJ's is right. Back then there were so many variety shows he did. :)
scott cokeley 01-05-2002, 02:52 AM FlannelPJs..I looked Bob Newhart up on the Internet Movie Database, and the only variety show it lists is a show from the early 60s.
Cheryl Harrell 01-05-2002, 06:33 AM Bob Newhart needs to come on here & give us the scoop on Freddie being on his show... :)
flannelpjs 01-07-2002, 05:08 PM I was right!! Bob Newhart did have a variety show in the 70's. I have a cousin who lives in California, and she is a research assistant at the CBS tv studios..I asked her to try to find something out about this if she could..by researching it for me. I heard from her today, and Bob Newhart did have a variety show in 1976, it ran from May until September, it aired on thursday nights from 7-8 p.m. Also, does anyone remeber the Jim Nabors show? Jim Nabors aka Gomer Pyle? That was another one from the 70's...
tylersmistress2002 01-07-2002, 05:12 PM I remember Jim Neighbors. Who would have thought he would have had such a voice....did you ever hear him sing? He was very good, if you like an opera sound.
Cheryl Harrell 01-07-2002, 05:59 PM Yep, he was a hunk! :) I did that one by scanning the pic of him that's on the front of the LOOOKING GOOOD album. That expression on him in the painting (Stutter) epsiode is priceless! :)
Cheryl Harrell 01-07-2002, 06:07 PM I remember the variety show Gomer (Jim) did. I saw him in concert with my parents once in '72. They had just opened up the Richmond Colusieum then & my mom wanted to go. They had him Sgt Carter & Ronnie Schell there. They were all funny. Gomer (Jim) came out in the middle of the audience right by my row singing, when he first came out that nite! I never did met him for some reason but he put on a nice show. Sang & also told jokes...

I saw for the first time yesterday, and it was advertised on TVLand, that there is a 3 hour video tape of the best of Red Skelton. It might be worth odering if Freddie is on it....and I'm sure it would be worth it even if he wasn't. Red Skelton was a SCREAM! I loved him.
Anyway, I thought I'd add my 2 centavos worth. LOL:D
Cheryl Harrell 01-09-2002, 01:29 PM My hubby has a bunch of Red Skelton videos. He said if he see's Freddie on any of them he will let me know. If he does, I will let you all know. :)
